Global Shipping Program restricted item nonsense

Well, once again I've had a small vintage item determined by some dolt at the Erlanger global shipping facility to be a restricted item. This item in question is a small vintage radio, and is by no means hazardous in any way. It's made of plastic and metal, not some highly rare form of exotic wood from an endangered species of tree in the Amazon... not some top secret metal from the confines of area 51... It's not wanted by Interpol... it's just a simple but attractive old collectible radio that couldn't harm anyone, and now surprisingly, it's the second nice old vintage radio I've had confiscated by the GSP in the last year.  Hmm... sounds like internal theft to me, but that's purely speculation on my part, but would in no way be surprising to me if confirmed. In case you're wondering, I'm the buyer, and located in western Canada, which by most accounts is a fairly safe place to ship to. The seller is respected and reliable, residing and shipping from the eastern US. Yup, it's real basic stuff, but as far as Ebay is concerned we both have our money back and the item is simply "gone".  In summary, I really can't recommend anyone buying anything fom a seller using the global shipping program. It's clearly a flawed system and I personlly would never count on it again, and neither should any other buyer outside of the US. Cheers...

Others have reported this problem as well.

Vintage radios are assumed to have vacuum tubes, and they can't tell if the tubes are restricted or not, so they are not accepted.

You could contact the seller and ask them to remove the GSP shipping so you can purchase, and advise them it's because vintage radios are not accepted for GSP shipping. That's about all you can do.

Entirely doubtfull that obsolete technology like vacuum tubes are restricted but rare protected Amazonian wood is not

For whatever reason, the GSP decided (more than a year ago)  that they aren't going to ship vacuum tubes ...

Google < vacuum tubes mercury > to read more about this.

Apparently, most vintage vacuum tubes don't contain mercury, but the GSP can't identify if they do or don't have mercury. So they are restricted.

I have yet to have the GSP confiscate a single vintage guitar amplifier.

Just had a second watch restricted by the gsp again at Erlanger Kentucky , very frustrating because the recent watch I won on auction , I got refunded but no response on why the item was restricted. I too am doubtful of this flawed system.
