Global Shipping Center FedEx Exception - "Customer Not Available or Business Closed"

Just encountered this today.  I'm shipping an item to Europe via Global Shipping.  An attempt was made to deliver the package to the shipping center in Kentucky, and no one was there to accept it.

Do they not accept packages on Saturdays or Sundays?  One would think this would be an around-the-clock operation.

Phone support was less than helpful, unfortunately.

FedEx probably arrived after the Receiving Department was closed for the day. Most companies cannot afford to operate a 24/7 receiving operation -- mainly because very few, if any, commercial deliveries are made after about 4 p.m. weekdays or at any time on weekends. I doubt the GSP would want to pay premium wages to clerks just sitting around on 2nd or 3rd shifts!
