GSP surprise!

Hello,

I'm a farily new seller and just learned an expensive lesson related to the GSP program.

An item sold yesterday for $36 with free shipping. When I went to print a shipping label the cost was $18!

The buyer is in Canada and only then did I realize I'm enrolled in the GSP! I suppose the free shipping defaulted to "free international shipping".....as I say, expensive lesson.

For now I opted out of the GSP out of frustration. I may be back when I figure out the shipping issues.....I know others have commented on this as well....just wanted to add my frustration to the mix.

GSP surprise!

@keatsvwrepair

With GSP shipping, the seller only has to pay the cost of shipping to the GSP shipping depot in Erlanger, KY. The buyer is responsible for the cost of international shipping and import charges (HST and duties if any, for Canada). Those extra fees are paid directly to Pitney Bowes for the GSP. The International shipping is never free, with GSP.

So if you were charged $18, that's the same amount it would have cost you if they buyer had been in Kentucky, or probably anywhehre on the Eastern seaboard. If that amount seems too high, then you need to figure out why. Opting out of the GSP isn't going to prevent it from happening again.

Were the dimensions and weight entered in the listing the same as when you bought the label? Did you use the same shipping service?

GSP surprise!

Thank you for the reply. I'm sure the package weight and dimensions are correct and I'm in Louisville, KY so the shipping to Elanger should be minimal.

I called Ebay last night about this issue and also looked through a few community posts....if I offer free shipping I think I need to specify this applies only to domestic and not international. The Ebay folks were nice but their answer was vague.

Again, I was surprised by all this and hadn't realized I was even in the GSP! My package does indeed ship to Elanger, Ky first. I guess I just covered international shipping cost.

I appreciate the information - thank you!

GSP surprise!

I got a GSP SURPRISE TO!  I ship international and i am not doing it right now until this mess is over.  But i also had someone buy something!  I am FURIOUS!

I have no idea what i am doing here?  I never shipped GSP.  I dont know which label to print?  They charged the buyer a VAT fee, so i assume it is a GSP shipment?  But then they have a checkbox for EBAY STANDARD SHIPPING Is that GSP as well?

I got into it with a customer rep on chat last night, i wanted to cancel shipment, but ebay is Refusing to refund my paypal fees i am going to be charged!

Can anyone help me with this shipment who knows about GSP?

GSP surprise!

Your going to be charged fees from ebay on shipping, and your going to be charged fees on the full amount they paid in paypal.  So you WILL have extra fees from this!  The buyer paid shipping based on the weight and size of package you have listed.

GSP surprise!

The Global Shipping Program is separate from ebay's new program, called ebay Standard International Shipping.  (I think that is what it's called).

With the GSP, seller pays domestic shipping to Erlanger, KY.  The buyer pays for item price + domestic shipping + international shipping + customs and fees.  Seller receives item price + domestic shipping.  Pitney Bowes invoices and receives the rest of the charges.

If you ship GSP you aren't shipping anything international. You ship to Kentucky....while it is own little world for sure, it still technically falls within the United States.

Something sure seems to be amiss. For $18 you should be able to ship a 16 pound package to Erlanger, KY. About $8 in a PFRE, or "regional rate" A box.

If you are enrolled in the GSP every listing you do will have the option to ship using the GSP turned on. If you do not want to ship using the GSP or to not ship internationally you need to turn this of by unchecking the box. You can use the seller hub/ active listings to check to see if the option is turned on for all of your active listings. On the manage active listings page. Hit the drop down arrow by the box that says item tittle and select GSP from the list. The search field will be set to enabled by default. Hit the search button and any listings with GSP turned on will populate in a list. You can edit each listing individually or check hit the check box for all of the listings and use the bulk editing tool to disable all at once. To use the bulk editing tool select all of the listings you want to edit at the same time by checking the check box and select edit from the box above the results. After the bulk editor opens it will take a few seconds to load all of the listings. Then again check all of the listings to select them. Hit the drop down arrow for the box that says edit fields and select international shipping from the list. In the new pop up window you will see a box that says GSP hit the drop down arrow for the selection box and set it to remove from all. Then select save and close to apply the changes. This will take you back to the main screen. If you have no more changes to make click the blue box to submit changes, if you get a confirmation message select yes.

disabling the GSP will turn it off from all listings but you can not sell and ship internationally with out being opted in. If opted in you can still sell internationally with out using it. You just need to set your international shipping options in the listing by specifying  what countries you would be willing to ship to from the check boxes. Then setting the shipping to USPS  FCP International for items under 1LBS or USPS Priority Mail International.

If you normally do free shipping you will want to uncheck the box specifying free shipping as there is no option to set domestics to free and international to buyer pays.

@keatsvwrepair

GSP is supposed to go to Kentucky ... you pay for shipping to Erlanger.

I'm wondering ... are you in eBay's managed payments?  If so, the managed payments system does not work with the GSP, and it likely defaulted you to self-paid international shipping.

According to an update I just read GSP is compatible with MP. Not saying it works as I haven't enrolled yet but it is supposed to be.

OP's listing (as referenced) shows as GSP to Canada. (buyer hipping cost for Erlanger to Canada, $11 and change)

No, you didn't cover the international shipping cost. Your  buyer was charged extra for that, on top of what you received for the sale. They were charged $11.23 for international shipping, plus GST which is usually 5%, which would be $1.80, or $2.36 if it's charged on the total including shipping, so they were probably charged an additional US$13.03 or US$13.59 in a separate transaction from the $36 you received.

The buyer didn't pay anything for the domestic shipping to Kentucky because the listing had free shipping.

You were charged $18 for the domestic shipping to Erlanger, KY. As I said, you need to figure out why that was, but you haven't given any information that would let us help you figure it out.

GSP surprise!

When you printed the label did you print a label for ‘eBay international standard shipping’?  That setting is for the international standard shipping program, a different program than the gsp.  If that was the label that you printed was that what was chosen for you when you went to ship or did you pick it out thinking it must be the right one?

It seems as if there have been other sellers lately who have printed a label for the international standard delivery program instead of a gsp label so I am wondering if the shipping program is defaulting to that by mistake. If it is the default for the gsp it is a mistake and eBay needs to fix it.

For the gsp you would have been charged for shipping to Kentucky.  The seller is never charged for the international part of the shipping because they are only paid for the domestic portion.  For the other program the seller pays for the international shipping because the seller received that amount from the buyer.

Were you charged on PP for the label?  If it is a gsp label you would be charged on PP immediately.   If it was a label for the other program you won’t see a charge on PP as it will be charged for on your eBay invoice but not until it is scanned in Kentucky.

If you figure out that it was a label for the other program and you haven’t mailed the package yet it might be best to make a new label for the gsp.  The buyer prepaid the import fees when they paid for the gsp but in the other program they may get charged on delivery.

Btw...you mentioned that you opted out of gsp but your listings still show that you use it.
