GSP package cleared customs at origin not destination

Hello,

I ordered a package through the Global Shipping Program which was sent via USPS with a USPS tracking number to Kentucky where it arrived and was processed with customs labelling etc; It then received its final update for Kentucky on 29th Jan.

29 Jan 2021 6:33pm - Shipped from the Global Shipping Center to International Destination - Erlanger, Kentucky 41025-2501 (Destination is Australia)

It then received another tracking number "Global tracking #UPAA....."

I received an email from Ebay this morning: "Your recent transaction through the Global Shipping Program has cleared customs and is now out for delivery with the carrier. " coupled with yet another tracking number assigned to it by way of Globegistics tracking.

When followed, it shows this:

Wednesday, February 3, 2021 3:09 AM ELK GROVE VILLAGE IL 60007 US

How can my parcel have been shipped from the origin country to the international destination (Australia), then 5 days later clear customs in the origin country and be out for delivery from Elk Grove, Illinois when I live in Australia?

Totally confused. Thanks.

Best guess: Elk Grove Village and Melrose Park are both sort facilities local to O'Hare Airport and the USPS International Service Center there. It appears that the international shipments originating in Erlanger, KY are (in at least some cases) being routed out of the country via O'Hare.

I seen a lot of strange stuff as you described when sending items from USA to Australia but so far nothing has been lost.  Hopefully your item will show up very soon.

GSP package cleared customs at origin not destination

This is one problem with ebay delivery services. I mailed a package to Russia using their International Standard Delivery in January. First it was delivered to Kentucky. Then they slapped another tracking number which shows that it went to Melrose Park in Illinois, later exported from the departure country. Mine does not show a delivery in Illinois, I think it is just one of those irrelevant tracking events.

I am positive that you will get your order but it will take at least 2-3 weeks from now.

The most irritating part of this is the erroneous email from Ebay stating: "Your recent transaction through the Global Shipping Program has cleared customs and is now out for delivery with the carrier "  which is clearly nonsense.

Yup, I usually get it in 8-12 days when I see that quote.

Hello @a_c_green

It would seem that your best guess was pretty accurate. The package arrived in Melbourne yesterday.

The bump in the road was caused by Ebay sending totally inaccurate emails that stated it had cleared customs and was in the final stages of delivery, when in fact it was nowhere near that.

Thanks for your help.
