Forced Return on E-Book Access Codes

Hello everyone,

I have sold two Pearson E-Book Plus access codes on eBay over the past two weeks. The first buyer asked me to send him the code via eBay message. I did so, and a few days later he forced a return, stating that the item was not as described. I had the ISBN listed in the description, with photos of the front and back of the card. It even stated:

"ALERT: Before you purchase, check with your instructor or review your course syllabus to ensure that you select the correct ISBN . Several versions of Pearson's MyLab & Mastering products exist for each title, including customized versions for individual schools, and registrations are not transferable. In addition, you may need a CourseID , provided by your instructor, to register for and use Pearson's MyLab & Mastering products. Packages Access codes for Pearson's MyLab & Mastering products may not be included when purchasing or renting from companies other than Pearson; check with the seller before completing your purchase."

Long story short, the buyer sent me screenshots of emails from Pearson clearly stating, "Product Mismatch," meaning that they were trying to redeem the access code for access to a different product. My listing obviously stated no returns. I tried to explain to the buyer that he bought an access code for the wrong product. Again, this was a sealed product. He continued to say that I called him a fraud, this and that. Of course, eBay automatically refunded his money without asking any additional details from me. I later appealed this decision and won. They first tried to tell me that it was described wrong because it was listed in the "Textbook" category rather than "Access Code" category.

Just recently, I received another return request for another Pearson access code that sold for $100. This was also new, and sealed. I shipped this one, however. The description on this one stated:

"ALERT: Before you purchase, check with your course instructor or course syllabus to ensure you are buying the correct access code card for your course. Several versions are available for each book and registrations are not transferable."

I have no idea what to do, it's just another rediculous instance of misued returns. The idea of a "return" on an access code is a joke. This item can't really ever be returned, how can I resell it when somebody else has the access code on their hands? I can't. Should I fight this one as well? The listing has no errors, and stated fair warning.

Forced Return on E-Book Access Codes

You should only list those in the  classified section.  Then they can not file a claim.

Forced Return on E-Book Access Codes

There's nothing to fight as your listings violated the digital goods policy. Just refund the buyers. Also you will lose an unauthorized use chargeback no matter what format you use to list the codes. Those kind of charges are very very common on digital goods purchases.
