I dropped off a smartpost package at one of those Fedex dropoff locations, like not a Fedex Office but a parcel store that has Fedex pickup.
I dropped it off yesterday afternoon. It is now the next day, late evening. The tracking has not been updated. It shows shipment info sent only.
I'm paranoid that the store owner wasn't familiar with Smartpost and might have thought it's a USPS package. When you make Smartpost label via Ebay, the tracking slip says USPS on it. I usually clarify that it's a Fedex package when I drop it off at non-Fedex Offices. I didn't this time.
Anyway, I'm posting this to get some feedback if other people have experienced a day long delay in a Smartpost tracking being updated online. Hopefully it's just a matter of the transfer from Fedex to USPS causing the delay and not a case of the store owner holding it because they don't think it's for Fedex.

I have seen posts on these threads where that happens and the USPS carries the package from origin to delivery. Actually if that happens you will be lucky as it will get delivered faster! SmartPost is anything but and is one of the most frustrating delivery services I have seen as a buyer and a seller. I try not to offer that to my buyers and I just don't want to treat them that way.
Anyway, there is something to be said for insuring that your package gets an acceptance scan and you walk out with a receipt, however that happens. I have taken things to Staples that is a UPS & FedEx pick up and have gotten a receipt, so I know it can be done.
So while it may not be track-able, no worries until the last EDD.

FedEx has never worked for me. Now I avoid them at all cost. From the few packages I shipped (4) going "poof" (only 1 ever being delivered), to the carelessness of packages delivered to me using FedEx. About half the time they do not come up our driveway. Not an extremely long drive, maybe 250 feet, the house sits only around 40 feet from the mailbox as the drive fish hooks back off the road, normally they slap a door tag on the mailbox and drive away.
SmartPost does eliminate the bad delivery aspect but my packages tend to be pretty beat up coming through FedEx. I'd recommend that since your packages are going to be delivered by USPS anyway you should just ship USPS, you can even get free carrier pick-up with USPS (it costs $11.45 for FedEx to pick up from my rural home), then you don't have to worry about random drop off locations.
