Fedex - Wrong Dimensions on their part

Hello, I sold a package that measured 30x7x1 (metal sign) and weighed 2.5 lbs. I dropped it off at my local Fedex. It got delivered and all was well until I got a Fedex payout for $290!! It was supposed to be $16.01 when I printed the label. The dimensions fedex show are 69x36x7 and 2.5 lbs (the cardboard  would weigh more than 2.5lbs!) but 105lbs dimensional weight!!  I reached out to ebay and they called me but said they couldn't help because their system was down. I called fedex 4 days ago and told them it was a mistake on their part and the lady on the phone was rude, and said she filed a dispute and would hear something within 36 hours but I've heard nothing. Does anyone know the correct route to fix this? I am so tired of being on hold and wasting my time for an error on their part. Seems like an unfair system if something like this can happen and doesn't get flagged.

Wow they were way off on their measurements ! We are currently going through the same thing with them. Sold some floor mats and the package was 3 inches thick and they billed us for 14 inches thick and obviously the charge was 4x the original estimate. So far we have gotten no help from Fed Ex or E-bay.

The only thing you might do is ask E-bay for a one time shipping credit. We did get one of those a few months ago without asking on a prior Fed Ex fiasco.

Good luck and let us know if you have any luck. We have read many posts about this happening to people but haven't read any solutions ?

This is not the first time there have been issues posted about unilateral charges after the fact although it is usually UPS that is the culprit. I seldom use UPS or FedEx but when I do I will not purchase the labels through eBay for this very reason. I use Pirate Ship for those transactions and the costs are paid with my CC and not out of my eBay linked bank account. I also take the labeled package to the UPS or FedEx shipping location for check-in, scanning, weight and a receipt. UPS tried a unilateral charge on me once and I filed a chargeback with my CC company and they ruled in my favor.

File a chargeback with your Bank, PayPal or CC company however you paid for the shipping.

While of NO comfort, I'll simply say, DO NOT buy UPS or FedEx labels on eBay. More often then not, they are not calculated correctly. Use another service or open an account with the carriers themselves, and buy labels that way.

This SHOULD be a simple matter or entering the correct weight and dimensions, and never having to worry about over or under charges.  Not the case on eBay.

What if seller is in managed payments ?

Thank you

There have been a lot of "swollen" packages.  I suspect that have some  laser measuring system that have problems when the box is as some angles to it.  Can't always tell where yours ends and another starts.  That would explain it.

Exactly. You either paid for the shipping out of your eBay funds which are in your bank account which is tied to eBay, or with PayPal or a CC. File a chargeback just like any buyer of a product or service can do. Regardless of how you paid for the shipping the Bank, CC or PayPal will go after the merchant which in this case will be considered eBay. FedEx will have to defend the chargeback to eBay and will likely loose.

If you buy the label on ebay you are paying ebay and they will run you through collections almost immediately.

The colored text above is NOT true.  The vast majority of the time there are no problems with FedEx/UPS labels, and the calculations are correct (or near correct).

But, when there is a problem ... yeah ... it can be a huge hassle to get it adjusted.

I have had FedEx adjust the weight of packages incorrectly twice on eBay, but the amount was not large and I gave up the wasted phone game. There really needs to be a channel to file a complaint to resolve this issue.
