I used FedEx for the first time to ship an item. Once the package goes from CA. to CT. there is an exception. Label unreadable removed and replaced. Extra $9.44 billed to my account. Ebay customer service consists of talking over the top of you while repeating the lines they've been programmed with or telling you that they will file a dispute. But if you call back the next person tells you there is a $10 threshold for filing a dispute. They happily tell you after the dispute is settled you will be refunded to try and get you off the phone. Right. Absolutely nothing happens except Ebay charges your bank account. Then crickets. Lesson learned. At least it was only $9.44 as I have read people have lost considerably more. Do not ever use FedEx for shipping. Ebay simply facilitates this kind of behavior from a carrier. Nice seller protection.

FedEx and UPS both have a statement that they can and will charge extra fees.
There are no seller protections and especially not for this.
CS has been known to give the caller information consisting of "what you want to hear"
FedEx and UPS are eBays accounts that sellers can use so if there are extra fees, eBay has to fight the fees with the carrier.
The seller gets the bill and has to ask eBay to fight the extra charge. eBay really has no reason to want to fight the extra fees because they are not paying them
This has been known and posted about for a long time.
My suggestion is to get your own account OR use Pirateship.

Nice seller protection.
Shipping with FedEx is different than USPS. When there is a packaging problem with FedEx that requires extra labor, you will pay a surcharge ... USPS isn't as strict, and doesn't always charge extra when extra handling is needed.
eBay has very narrow seller protection, and it definitely doesn't extend to unreadable shipping labels.
