FedEx Shipping Fee Adjustments

Has anyone been hit with an additional "handling charge" for putting a box in a poly mailer for added protection?  I was recently charged an additional $36 for handling, fuel and residential fee.  I originally thought it was because of the dimentional weight formula so I called Ebay to dispute because I had used it, and was told it was for using a poly mailer.  Has anyone encountered or even heard of this?  UPS has never done this.

UPS and FedEx both do that. If you got away with it in the past it's either because you got lucky and your package wasn't audited, or because it was below the size where the surcharge kicks in.

There are many surcharges with UPS and FedEx that are not factored in until the carrier physically reviews the package.

FedEx Shipping Fee Adjustments

I ship all my boxes inside poly bags (taped up well, not loose fit) and I've never had issues with UPS.

However, FedEx seems to hit you with unfair fees with any excuse... $11 shipment, $36 fee. eBay should renegotiate their contract with FedEx. It is exploiting eBay sellers unfairly.
