Fed-Ex Shipping Fees

My Fed-Ex shipping weight has been showing x3 of original weight on my Ebay invoices for shipping fees. I did call yesterday and a friendly Ebay representative went through each over priced Fed-Ex fee going back to December. She stated she is placing a dispute request in to the Ebay appeals explaining my complaints...will hear within a week.

The reason I am writing this is to see if anyone else had been charged overweight on their packages? I live in a rural area with a small Fed-Ex hub...so not sure if the adding weight into Fed-Ex scanners was local or at the regional level.

I also read some posts from 2015 archives that this had been a problem...so not sure what the cause was at the time and how they resolved. I do want to warn everyone of this current situation in my case. Not sure if a bug in the systems or a person error. I copied and pasted the below paragraph from a previous post.

*****Anyway, long rant to remind people: CHECK YOUR INVOICES, YOUR SHIPPING CHARGES AND THE WEIGHT ASCRIBED TO YOUR SHIPMENTS. YOU MAY BE SURPRISED AT WHAT YOU FIND.

Yes, I had that problem. I'm not sure what to do. Fed Ex charged me double for one package. When I called Fed Ex they would not discuss with me, because they said that I am not their customer- that Ebay is the customer.
When I called Ebay - twice- they said that I had to call Fed Ex. I could not get any help. I will call Ebay back after reading your note and ask for a dispute request? My overcharge was also in December. Very upsetting. Large amount. thanks for the post.

That usually indicated the pkg was billed or re-rated for dimensional weight issues

ALL FedEx and UPS shipments ship at dimensional weight.

An 8"x8"x8" pkg ships at the greater of 8x8x8/166=4 pounds or the actual weight.
A 24"x18"x10" pkg ships at the greater of 24x18x10/166=27 pounds or the actual weight.

The billable weights on the eBay invoice reflect that - that is how they show billing for dimensional weight on the invoice.
(If you put the correct dimensions in the listing and use those correct dimensions on the label page you should have been correctly billed.)

Provide the ship date, actual weight, dimensions as shipped, from and to zipcodes, the amount, billed weight, and any surcharge amounts from the eBay invoice, and any insurance or signature service amounts for one of those shipments and I'll break it down for you.

Provide the same information I asked the OP for about your pkg and we will see what happened.

Forgive me, but I just don't see justification for something I ship at 12 pounds to be entered at 52 lbs by Fed-Ex. If this is common...than I need to report to Rip.off. And yes my measurements were correct.

@brestradingpost

Pay attention to what @berserkerplanet  wrote - he is a "god" when it comes to shipping.  He is just trying to help you.

Just because you don't "see" something is a reason to give short shrift to an expert?  Sigh.

Did you come here for a solution or just to "vent"?  Nothing wrong with the later, just state so so we don't try to help out.

Thanks for the words of confidence. grin

This could be a systemic problem with OP's local or regional FedEx facilities, an eBay calculator or billing issue (very unlikely), or user error.

User error is easy enough to confirm or dismiss with the requested information, and narrows possible directions fingers can point down to two.

If information is forthcoming, I'll help.
