I do not ship Fed Ex because it is not convenient at all (I live in a rural area). I have a large dimension package (23x18x14) which weighs 12 pounds. The ebay calculator is saying $33.73 to the location. That is way way cheaper than USPS and the FedEx over the counter price. Is it true? If I give my listings a Fed Ex option, will there be charges billed to me at the end of the month (I have read that happens). I don't want to add it to my listings as an option unless it is charging the actual cost I will be paying.

Federal Express charges are added to your eBay fees, so you pay once per month. Be very careful if you use them. If you miss calculate the size and/or weight you could have a nasty suprise on your next bill. People have seen the cost double or triple once FedEx gets the package and recalculates. I always take mine to the FedEx store and have them confirm the weight and dimensions.

eBay's price is an estimate based on the weight and measurements you provide, but FedEx charges you according to what they actually measure once it arrives at one of their shipping centers. Also, the eBay estimate does not include surcharges or added costs for declared values over $100. FedEx is also very picky about packaging, so you are safest to ship in a plain rectangular cardboard box (covering it with plastic, for example, could cost you an additional $13 surcharge).
Before shipping, you should familiarize yourself with pages 115-129 of the 2020 FedEx Service Guide. Pay particular attention to pages 115, 119, 125 and 127 ... these describe the fees that most impact eBay sellers.

Thank you. I am going to go ahead and try them. I am printing the label at home. Would it be wise to add an inch all the way around and a pound to the weight just to be safe. It is a plain rectangular box with a little bit of ebay tape on it, but mostly clear packaging tape. It is 21.5" x 17.5" X 18", so 22x19x18. Home scale says 9.1 lbs, but it is dimensional anyway, so putting 12 pounds doesn't change anything. Is it alright for me to add to it, or am I better off leaving it at 10 lbs.
There sure are a lot of "horror" stories about FedEx out there. I looked at the link and the zipcode doesn't show up the surchage lists. The buyer prefers FedEx and that is why I even looked at them. I assume that means they are fairly easy to deliver to at their address. FedEx out here isn't great. When I see a seller ships something to me that starts with FedEx and ends with USPS, I know it will be weeks before I see it. 😞

The weight and dimensions that you enter in are for your own reference / record. So, I would put in your measurements (e.g., 10 pounds and 22x19x18)
There sure are a lot of "horror" stories about FedEx out there.
True, but most of the stories are simply people who are inexperienced with FedEx shipping ... for example, they don't understand dimensional weight or they don't understand that FedEx is picky about packaging. Shipping with FedEx is harder than shipping with the USPS.
The only problem really with FedEx would be if you had to file a claim (it has to be done through eBay). I've never had to do it, but filing a claim through eBay looks to be a beast.

When I feed in 22 x 18 x 18 into the FedEx dimensional calculator, it is giving me a dimensional weight of 52 lbs.
06-14-2020 09:28 PM
How do you see what dimensional weight the price is based on? I am looking at the ebay shipping calculator and the label printing page for a sold item.
06-14-2020 09:30 PM
Found it.

I understand dimensional weight and the importance of correct measuring. Each inch definitely is making a difference. The packaging tips are very helpful. Thank you for the advice.

I believe that the FedEx divisor for EBay is 166 which should give you 43 lbs.

The FedEx contract with eBay specifies a dimensional divisor of 166 instead of FedEx's standard of 139 ... so 22x18x18 is 43 pounds

I am seeing you are chatting in about a final value fee on shipping. What had happened with the shipping overcharges?
I only charged the buyer $25.00 for shipping
It shows on my account that shipping was over $60.00
I see , were the dimensions or weight on the shipment all correct?
Yes
Checking into everything now.
Thank You
It was shipped FedEx Ground
I am seeing the charges on our side were $20.94. Checking into the invoice charges now.
I refunded the buyer the difference
I only charged him $25.00
Where was the $60 fee showing up for you? I am not finding that for some reason.
It shows up on my seller account
Fin$6.02 Final value on Shipping Fees Final Value Fee on Shipping US $6.02l Value Fee on Shipping US $6.02
I am seeing other final value fees within the invoice. I do see the 6.02 on the final value fee on shipping. I know if a partial refund is issued that we would have no way to credit for that as the is worked out between seller and buyer.
It shows up on my Selling Fees
The refund shows on PayPal
I do see the 6.02 for the final value fee on shipping as well. Although with a partial refund being issued we would not be able to adjust any fees in regards to those.
That is not right as the final value fee was based on $60.00
The final value shipping fee
Where on the invoice was the $60 showing up for you? I am just not able to find that.
It shows up on my seller account under fees
I am seeing three Fedex shipping fees in Mays invoice for 14.89 , 18.01 , and 11.87. Still searching for a $60 one though.

Perhaps the $60.16 was the order total?
I really don't know but the final value on shipping fees is way too much
Seeing 105.16 - the partial refund of $35.16
That is all correct
The partial refund is for overpayment of shipping
I do see the $60.16 in the order details now.
Right The $35.16 should be deducted from that
I am not sure how that had happened. From the label details it seems it has not calculated that amount. I know with a partial refund though that we would have now way besides a courtesy credit to issue a final value fee on an item or shipping for them as well.
I would really like to have the credit. Leo Member of eBay since December 1996
I am checking into that option and seeing there has been a courtesy credit for billing in the past. I would be unable to process a courtesy due to that. I am sorry
Any courtesy credit in the past would be for something else
Something that eBay did wrong
Unfortunately we can only issue one per account.
I am seeing that one as well. Although another one was also issued as a courtesy.
I am worried that this will happen again if I ship FedEx
Please report this to your supervisor. Leo
I know with Fedex its best to have exact weight and dimensions or overcharges can be costly.
I did that
eBay sent the buyer an invoice that was wrong
The buyer asked for a refund on the shipping
I gave him one
I am sorry that has happened. I know a seller would have to send an invoice. What happened with the invoice?
eBay did not calculate FedEx Ground instead is was for expedited shipping
eBay sent him and invoice before I did and he paid
That is why I sent him a refund via paypal
I do see the other option for shipping on the listing. Could they have outright purchased with Priority instead of ground? Or maybe the invoice was sent with it?
Priority Mail would have been over $48.00 because of the size of the box
We recommend in that case however it happened to cancel and have the buyer repurchase to save from any future fees for incorrect shipping on a purchase.
I believe the shipping calculator eBay uses is wrong
They don't show the shipping discount unless you click on the little box
For the Fedex shipment and the USPS shipment they seem correct from the weight and dimensions that are set.
The little box says eBay discount
I know with the invoice area that you can also adjust a discount and that can work to balance the shipping but it looks like another service was sent via invoice to the buyer.
I guess the seller only sees this
Yeah with the shipping discounts only the seller would see that.
Wow! LoWow! Looks like I lose more money to eBay.
I am 78 years old and on old age SSI
I am sorry that has happened. I wish there was something I could do. I know going forward if an incorrect shipping is on an order it will be best to cancel it and you can use there was a shipping error in the buyers address so it wont count against you for canceling.
I guess I understand even though it is wrong
I still think you should bring this to your supervisor's attention
Thanks Jeremy
I will bring that up. Thanks again for your patience as I looked into everything for you. Please stay safe and take care.
Thank You Jeremy! You do the same.... Leo, clothesusa in Boise, Idaho
