Fake or reproduction of autograph loophole

I thought ebay's policy on autographs was even if a seller does not offer returns you can still get a refund if ebay's approved authenticators JSA or PSA rejects the autograph as a fake or a copy. Turns out as long as a seller description states  'We do not guarantee that the signature will pass 3rd party authentication. We are selling this item as is, we will not offer any refunds partial or full and will not cover any costs towards authentication"  Ebay told me with that description the seller is protected if it's a copy or a forgery.  I think this would encouge scammers to sell fake or copy's of autographs. This Hank Williams autograph is currently at $413 and a buyer could be buying a copy for all they know.

Then a buyer should only purchase authenticated signatures.

Re: Fake or reproduction of autograph loophole

Yes your right. I did bid $100 but quit there after ebay told me there autograph guarantee  wouldn't count even if it's fake or a copy. I had no problem getting refunds before if an autograph was rejected by PSA or JSA. The Hank Williams sold for $736 and now they have Babe Ruth and Joe Dimaggio autographs that they don't have to refund if there fake or copies. I thought ebay had better standards to protect buyers from fraud.

Re: Fake or reproduction of autograph loophole

Whoever you talk to flat out lied to you. Buyers can file a money-back guarantee claim for any reason. Even made up reasons. In fact authenticity disclaimers in listings are against the eBay rules

Re: Fake or reproduction of autograph loophole

That would make sense to me. When it was first listed I called ebay and a woman said it violated ebay listing rules and she was reporting it to the fraud department. On day 10 of the auction it was still listed so I called back and they told me buying an autograph with the sellers authenticity disclaimer would be at my own risk. The rep even put me on hold to talk to a supervisor. They were firm that eBay's money back guarantee would not apply  to an autograph with that disclaimer. Is it in writing somewhere that authenticity disclaimers are against ebay rules? I couldn't find it. I would have bid on it if I knew I could get a refund if it got rejected by JSA or PSA.

Re: Fake or reproduction of autograph loophole

Thanks a lot. The fraud department should have removed the item or had them relist it without the disclaimer then. I told ebay all of the sellers autographs have the same disclaimer but ebay doesn't do anything about it. The guy who checked with his supervisor said the seller was in the right and wouldn't have to give a refund if fake or a copy. The representatives are not taught eBay's own policies.
