I’m a new Canadian seller and Im having issues printing shipping label from within ebay. Called ebay 3 times and they said the matter should be resolved in 24 hrs. It’s been 2 weeks and Ive sold 2 items already and ebay is asking me to pay postage at the post office till they rectify the matter. Problem is it’s $400 CAD shipping I have to pay out of pocket and don’t have the funds at the moment. It was supposed to ship Monday Sep 18, 2023. Shipping is from Canada to Spain.
Error code I’m receiving:
“It was not possible to generate the label. Something is wrong. Please try again later.”
Service used: ebay.ca
Hardware/software used:
- Macbook (tried Safari, Chrome, Firefox)
- iPhone (tried Safari, Chrome, eBay app)
Troubleshooting:
- tried several different couriers (FedEx, Canada Post) and same error generated
- tried shortening description of item in customs section (as another post with similar error said it fixed their issue) but error persists
- tried different software/hardware combos but error persists
Thx to anyone that could help!

I’m not sure what the problem would be but if you post on the eBay .ca discussion board someone there may have a suggestion . Most of the sellers on this .com board are familiar with printing labels on the US site, not in Canada.

Have you double checked that the address is correct as that can cause an error. What are the measurements and weight that you are entering?
Is this the $1000 item? EBay requires that any transaction $750+ needs to be sent with signature confirmation. I’m not sure if Xpresspost in Spain will provide a signature and if not, you could lose an item not received claim.
I noticed in your listing that you mentioned that the buyer could purchase extra insurance. Any insurance that you want to include has to be built in to the shipping cost, you can’t charge extra. Since the seller is responsible for the item until the buyer receives it, the insurance only benefits you, not them. There is no such thing on eBay as a final sale. If the item is damaged, the buyer can return it through the money back guarantee and you would be responsible for return shipping. If the item gets lost, you’re responsible to refund the buyer.

Thanks for the response. I'll check the Canada help site as well for support.
Yes destination address and return address are correct.
Correct, it's the $1000k CAD item.
I was unaware of the policy on charging extra for insurance.
I thought final sales was an option if person simply changed their mind after receiving item.
More so if item is damaged upon arrival wouldn't the insurance cover the damage? If the person chose to return it, wouldn't the insurance cover the return shipping cost? Finally if the item is lost, doesn't the $1k insurance cover that?
Im unsure what the point of insurance is if it can't be used in situations that occur regularly as a result of shipping an item.
Last question, is this whey some sellers don't ship large/expensive items overseas? Because of the headaches involved re. shipping/damages/returns?

Thanks!

I think that you misunderstood what I meant about insurance. You can buy it and use it if necessary. When you set up your listing you can include it as part of the shipping cost. But you cannot tell the buyer that if they want insurance there is an extra charge. The insurance isn’t for their benefit anyway. It is for your benefit as you are the one who will have to refund the buyer if the package goes missing etc. After you refund then you out in a claim for the insurance.
Insurance will cover the package if it gets lost and may cover damage unless they determine that it wasn’t packaged well enough. Insurance will not pay for shipping the item back to you.

I don't have a solution for the issue, but you can always buy your postage somewhere else as a workaround in the meantime. I usually suggest PirateShip, but they don't work in Canada yet, so maybe PayPal/netParcel? https://www.paypal.com/ca/business/shipping/net-parcel
