Ebay won't call back .. problem with return shipping label

I sell records and CDs on eBay and I have my first return request for a record. I mailed it with USPS Media Mail, which costs about $3.50, but there's no option to send a Media Mail return label to the customer. When I click send return shipping label to customer, eBay wants to charge three times that amount. The other option is to upload a return label, but there's not a way to do that with Media Mail on the USPS site. (From what I've read, you can do this with a Stamps.com account, but I don't sell enough to warrant the monthly fee).

I've contacted the customer and they've agreed to return it with Media Mail at the post office and I'll refund that cost along with their original purchase amount, but eBay says that if I don't provide proof that I've sent the customer a return label, they're going to charge me for their $9+ label in two days.

I've requested several times for eBay to call me, but each time I get an email saying they tried to call but there was no answer. Of course that's not true. I've had my phone right beside me each time and there was no call.

Is there any way to talk to an actual person at eBay to help with this??

You're better off doing as ebay instructs even if it costs you extra, for one you will have no way of refunding the "extra" to the buyer, apparently your buyer is on the inexperienced side as well but it's sure nice to see they're willing to work with you... Again I would just bite the bullet on this one, pay the $9+ or ebay will do it for you, I am not sure why it won't allow a media mail return if that was your original shipping method.

That being said you may wish to check your preferences / settings to make sure the phone number there is in fact the one you are using now, also make sure your phone is not set to ignore calls from 'unknown' numbers (or numbers not in your contacts) when ebay calls back.

Return labels are all sent 'First Class' but they are 'special' labels with pricing to be determined. Nothing on returns will be sent back 'media mail'. You will be charged whatever USPS charges Ebay, on your next invoice.

From the Help pages:

Return shipping costs when you use an eBay label:

When the buyer is returning the item to you, the cost of the label will be charged to your PayPal account once it’s scanned by the carrier. We may ask you to accept a billing agreement to authorize payment for these kinds of charges.

Any time you use an eBay return shipping label, returns are shipped by either USPS First-Class or Priority Mail, depending on the item’s cost, package weight, and delivery time.

“You're better off doing as ebay instructs even if it costs you extra, for one you will have no way of refunding the "extra" to the buyer”

I’ve been selling on another site for years and this has never been a problem. I’ve paid for “extra” return shipping simply by sending that person $3-4 separately.

“I would just bite the bullet on this one, pay the $9+ or ebay will do it for you”

eBay charges enough in fees and commission compared to other sites and I don’t really feel like donating extra money to them. I mean, why not just tell the buyer to keep the record considering the return shipping eBay want to charge is 1/4th of the original price.

“make sure your phone is not set to ignore calls from 'unknown' numbers (or numbers not in your contacts) when ebay calls back”

I receive spam calls constantly every day so it’s definitely not my phone settings. When I first searched this message board for related threads I read at least 10 posts where people complained about eBay sending an email that they tried to call but never did .. and some people said this has been an ongoing issue for years.

This should not be this difficult.

Ebay won't call back .. problem with return shipping label

Apparently the third time is the charm. Requested another call back and finally got one.

I was informed that once a tracking number is entered for the return shipping there should be no problem. Although (for anyone else who has this problem) they did say to make sure that I wasn't charged shipping by eBay on my next invoice.

Thanks.
