I have TWICE accepted a return BY ACCIDENT due to Ebay's Return Page NOT having a middle step in between after a choice has been chosen by the seller on the first page. Let me explain: When a buyer requests a return and I click on to the return request page it gives me options of, "Accepting the return, leaving the buyer a message, etc." HOWEVER, once a choice is made by the seller like leaving a message to the buyer the page does NOT have a close-out link. It only has a "CONTINUE" button. This "Continue" link/button should have a secondary page asking the seller, "DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE WITH THE RETURN AND ACCEPT IT?" It does not. If like most normal people I am staring at a page where I just left a message to the buyer asking him to provide photos and a description of the damages to the item THE PAGE SHOULD CLOSE OUT! It does not !!!!! Now here is the real problem! Once a return request has been accepted, even if by accident, EBAY will NOT allow the seller to recind the acceptance, so the seller is thereby screwed. I think that the Return Request Page is faulty and biased towards the buyers and that the "Continue" button does NOT explain to the seller that by clicking on the continue button they are going to accept the return. At least Ebay should put two buttons on the return request page. One stating continue and accept the return, and a button stating, close this page and wait for the buyers response. BY NOT DOING WHAT I JUST STATED EBAY IS ALLOWING SELLERS TO ACCIDENTELY CHOOSE THE WRONG OPTION! Please change the page and have two button/links installed at the bottom of the request page. IT IS UNFAIR TO THE SELLER IF HE SHOULD ACCIDENTALLY CLICK ON THE CONTINUE BUTTON THAT THE SELLER CAN NOT RECIND THE ACCIDENT! I have now lost hundreds of dollars in return postage due to accepting those two returns by accident and having to pay BOTH original and return postages when I have a no return policy anyway! Steven

I think I understand what you're saying and can even agree with it on one level ........
But if you know it's been a problem at least once for you already, why not just try and remember to double-check where you are in the process when you have another possible return?

@toys4steve1, maybe you didn't select the radio button to "Send a message" but mistakenly left it at Accept the return?
Can you explain again what you do next when you get to this page?

Yup that is the way the return system works. You have to back out of pages. Just like when you accept a return but don't want to provide a label. It's the exact same thing. But now you know.

What you can do is quickly refund the buyer and send the buyer a message that they can keep the item and to please not ship it back, that should save you the shipping.

My buyer had a zero feedback rating and did not respond to my asking him for damage on a very expensive item. He did not send photos or describe the damage. He was not shall I dare say a US citizen for his writing to me was in broken English when he asked for the return. He simply did not comprehend me asking for further information on the item. That forced me to pay return shipping of $68.00. When I received the item back it was completely destroyed for the buyer did not wrap the item properly and protect it the way I did. So it was worthless. I REALLY got screwed.

The item was very expensive, The buyer did not respond to my asking him for photos and damage information. I was dealing with a buyer with Zero feedback and csomeone who wrote to me in broken English. I could not let him keep the expensive item for I may have been able to re-sell it. I received it back completely destroyed for the buyer did not take the time to wrap it and package it as I had done so professionally. I paid $68 in return shipping and paid the original $68 in shipping on an item worth $125. It was insured by the post office but I now have no chane of salvaging any parts.

Yes, Now I do know but Ebay should have a Close-out button and not have the seller have to guess at how to backout of pages. That's deceptive. I fell for it by hitting the continue button thinking I would be taken out of that page. Instead it accepted the return and I became screwed. There needs to be a back-out button put in under the continue button!

FYI, ebay doesn't require a buyer to send photos proving damage.

I don't get a lot of returs so I simply forgot that I did it once before but that is simply not the point...It is still deceptive to other Ebayers who may do the same thing I did. It needs to be resolved by Ebay and a close-out button needs to be put on that page!
