I recently purchased an item and it is defective. So I filed a return request and I heard back from the seller. According to the seller, I should go to the post office, buy a label and ship it to the address listed in the email. Is this proper protocol for the buyer to purchase the label at the post office or should I receive one via eBay? I am pretty new to buying on eBay and I don’t want to get scammed.

If it is a domestic transaction, the shipping label should be available to print from the return platform once the seller accepts it.
If it is an international transaction, the seller needs to provide you with funds, up front, for return postage via a trackable method. It needs to be its own transaction and not a partial refund of the original payment.

eBay will provide you with a return shipping label.
