I ordered a car part on eBay. Before ordering it, sent a message to seller checking before ordering to make Shute it was the right part. They responded that it was right, so I ordered it. When it arrived, it was not the part I ordered. I got a return authorization and shipping label with customs forms that had incorrect info on them. These forms indicated two items instead of one. I carefully repacked the item in the original box. No damage to the part whatsoever! I got no message from the seller. They reduced my purchase price by 50 percent for a part that I did not need! They screwed up, so should return the full purchase price.

Based on what you stated, I'd be inclined to agree. It is odd that there was an error on the customs DEC, as those are seller- provided information.
So, you were hit with the double whammy of - first - receiving the incorrect part, even though you had taken due diligence to confirm that the part was correct with the seller. Then - second- having the customs DEC showing multiples instead of the single item.
I'm inclined to think the duplicate error that showed up in the DEC ( where you don't want to make a mistake) is evidence of an error the seller made in BELIEVING they sent you two of the item.
If you haven't done so by now, I would reach out to the seller to confirm that you were responsible to return one part only, and that they should check their records of the sale. I'm willing to bet, if they are reasonable, this can be corrected and you be made whole on the transaction.
Please follow up here if you can.
