So I dropped off a package at the post office today, going from KY. to AL. Printed the shipping label through EBAY @ 8:45 AM, and by 11:15 AM is was marked as delivered to a PO BOX in FT. Thomas, Ky. That's where the USPS location is that I dropped it off at. So my question is (and I'm hoping what happened), did the post office accidentally mark it as delivered, or is this some kind of hack/scam that I fell into? I already reached out to the buyer, and informed him that I saw that the packaged was delivered, and told him I would contact the post office tomorrow. Any other advise?

It was most likely scanned as delivered, a mistake.

The package was accidentally marked as delivered instead of accepted. As the package moves along the mail stream, the tracking will update with its location. This is the actual USPS tracking. The Ebay tracking will not change. You can give the buyer the actual USPS tracking link if you wish so they can track the progress.

To scan a package accepted you have to hit esc. then scroll down to pre-paid acceptance. However in bright sun or in the case of highly used scanners the screens become scratched up. Sometimes it is hard to see them. Someone trying to get things scanned quickly to make dispatch can not get the right scan. I have a very dusty route, my scanner face is worn badly. I have to be extra careful to get the scans right. Sometimes on really bright days I have to rely on counting the button clicks.
Call your Post Office and tell them your package was scanned delivered instead of accepted and ask them to go into the system and correct it.

This has happened more than once & all should work out in time. What I do when this happens I go our local PO on the or just after the expected delivery date and ask for an intra USPS tracking report (much more detailed that what we see on the 'net) and discover a deliver scan had been made. i then send an eBay message to the and say something to the effect. " Just a a follow-up, I see your purchase has arrived and we trust you are pleased with your purchase. Let us know if you have concerns. Thanks Again for your purchase. More often than not the buyer says something good. Some people will say this is inviting bad news, I say I'm being proactive & I ain't been burnt yet. Selling as a profession/career for 42 years taught me a few things about customers.
I have seen our carrier miss scan a pack as delivered on a package she just picked up and she double checks her scan and corrects right on the spot to a pick-up. Not all USPS employees (or other employees ) are that diligent. Recently had a UPS delivery person hang a package on the fence section that divides our lot from our neighbor there is no fense section that run across our driveway - WTH (What the hay)
