Every year I sell through the winter (since 2003), and it's quite a roller coaster ride learning what has changed each year.. So first up this year, while trying to manage the minuscule "smart" phone features, I see my new listing quotes different shipping amounts depending on what device one is viewing. They are both updated correctly as to location. A 25x19x4 package @ 31 lbs, using eBay shipping calculator, comes to 17.49 to 45.70 depending on location (that's the discounted rate, which I am charging). Viewing on my desk-top, the amount in the listing (not signed in) is correct- $17.52. Viewing on my smart phone, the amount is $36 or so (not signed in). I am trying to keep shipping low on this item, because it can become more than the item itself depending on buyer location, if I am not giving my full discount. Listing title is "Vintage LP RECORD CABINET (new old stock), in Original Box, 1965-1975 Item". Anyone have any ideas? I wondewr what the shipping price shows up as in California? I feel like my listing is getting "screwed".

That makes sense. I just looked at the first pic and didn't realize it was flat packed.
There is an issue right now where mobile web is sometimes showing wrong shipping rates, sometimes showing correct rates in search view. The listing itself shows correct rates.
The app shows correct rates as does classic web.
The number of people seeing wrong rates will be minimal, and if they click through to the listing they'll see correct rates.

You don't have to wonder; you can go to the shipping tab in the listing and plug in any ZIP Code. On my laptop, shipping to 90210 is showing as $47.07. Shipping to your location (Denver PA 17517) shows as $17.52.

Yes, thank you. But what does is say on your smart phone? I think most people today (unfortunately), are shopping on a smart phone.

The device should make no difference. Since you are using calculated shipping, the amount will be based on what you input in the listing for weight/dimensions and the buyer's zip code.

On the search page, it is showing a little higher price on my phone, but the listing page has the same price,
Search page on phone is showing $33.62 and on PC it's $29.26

I see the same exact ship cost on the app (both in search view and clicking on the listing) as I do on my laptop @gooddealtom
$17.52 to NY
$47.07 to LA
Both prices are slightly off from the eBay shipping calculator which offers a range of $17.49 - $45.70
Don't know why there's approx 1% difference between the calculator and the listing. Did you pass on the full discount or set up a percent? Did you add a handling fee?

Yes, I know that is how it is supposed to be. But my smart phone shows a different price, about twice as much, is registered to my home address, and that double price would be to the same town. PA to California? If others are getting a greatly amplified price quote they'll never know what is accurate till they pay, which they won't do because shipping is too much. Would like to get a reply from someone in California who has checked it on a smart phone. 🙂

I passed on the full discount, otherwise shipping would be over $100 to CA (a good reason not to buy). No handling fee. I'm not worried about a few cents difference, I just don't want the quote to scare people. Thanks for checking that, but I'm still getting the wrong double price on my smart phone.

Can you be more specific @gooddealtom :
When you say "on your smart phone" that can mean many things.
1. eBay app on Android
2. eBay app on iOS
3. mobile site through web browser on Android [name browser]
4. mobile site through web browser on iOS [name browser]
5. classic site through web browser on Android [name browser]
6. classic site through web browser on iOS [name browser]
If you're on the eBay app, did you verify the app is up-to-date?

I've shipped thousands of packages (many larger size ones too) and not once have I heard from a buyer telling me his phone showed one cost for postage but he was charged another rate when he paid on his desktop.
I don't use a phone. I would assume they need a zip code entered to get a shipping quote. If not, do they figure a cost via GPS location or something? Don't laugh, I just don't understand how the calculator would give two different amounts via different devices, if the same info was used with both.

Using an Android phone with Google Chrome browser, not the app.
PC is using FireFox.
On the search page, phone was showing different shipping charge, but the shipping was right on the listing page.

Can you check Chrome on your PC @kensgiftshop to rule out a general Chrome issue as opposed to PC vs mobile issue?
Do you recall if Chrome on your phone was looking at mobile web or classic web?

Chrome on the PC is right.
I checked FireFox on my phone, and it's also showing the higher shipping cost on the search page.
Don't know the difference between the Mobile and Classic site, just opened the browser and typed in ebay.com.

One other thing @gooddealtom : are you sure those dimensions are correct? The cabinet is clearly more than 4" in all directions and the rates you're charging could be much lower than actual ship cost.

See pics of box; the item is assembled for inspection and dissassembled, and documented inthe listing. It is 4" wide, but weighs a ton. Without the discount, shipping to CA would be like $100+, instead of $45. I'm just not convinced the $45.70 is showing up on their smart phones in CA, as I get a different price on my smart phone than my desktop (the desktop being accurate).
