Customer said I put the wrong name and address on package

I am new to eBay(have only sold 40+ items). This is my first customer to have an issue. Bear with me as this  is an odd situation.  Customer said a package arrived with the wrong name and address, so she took it to her neighbors. Then she realized maybe it was her package after all. Her neighbors will not give her the package. She said it is because I put the wrong name and address on the box. However, I used the name and address that the eBay label had printed with the information she would have provided. I have no way of knowing if the address is correct or not, nor do I know of a way I can change what information Ebay provides me. I messaged her back with a screenshot of both the post office tracking slip and of the order details including the address I was provided. She is coming back to me saying I changed the name and address and she has never had this happen to her before. Any idea how to respond to her on this?

If you go to your "Paid and Shipped" tab on your Orders page, find the order.  Click on "View Order Details" and that should be the address provided by the buyer. That's the address you shipped to.

She needs to provide you with actual PHOTOGRAPHIC proof of her claim (doubt she will).

If she opens an "Item Not Received" (INR) claim, upload the tracking number to the claim with a brief explanation saying " I see this was delivered on such and such a date" and THAT'S IT!

Even if you wrote the wrong name and address on the box, the shipping label is what the carrier goes by. If she decided to "give" the package to her neighbors, that's not your fault... any more than a porch pirate stealing it.

Stop communicating with her.

OK, so the buyer knows she is expecting a package.

She receives a package.  It has the wrong address on it? So she takes it to the neighbor's.  Was it the neighbor's address?

And now the neighbor won't give her the package?

After establishing that the package was delivered to the address shown on eBay as her shipping address, not sure if you need to have any further involvement.

If she opens an INR case, there is tracking showing delivery.

Go to the Paid and Shipped area on your orders page, find the order details and see what name/address is shown there.

if the name and address was incorrect then why did the post office deliver to her address?

If she opens an INR case then upload tracking and you are done

Obviously there is no way you could possibly know her neighbor's name and address. That's not your package.

What does the tracking say for your package? Go to USPS.com and look up the status of the tracking number there. Let us know what you find!

TAgging on:

The buyers story makes no sense on any of several levels.

Indeed.  Why would USPS deliver the package to her if it wasn't addressed to her?

Does the tracking show it was delivered to the address provided by ebay?

No back and forth.    No discussion with the buyer.

"Tracking shows the item was delivered by USPS on XX/XX/2022 to the address provided buy you to ebay, and provided by ebay to me."

The rest is nonsense and I'd refused to be draw into a conversation with this person.

You shipped a package to the buyer at the address the buyer provided. The buyer received the package through USPS service at the buyer's address:

a) The address on the package was not correct and the USPS accidentally delivered to your buyer instead of the address on the package (what a coincidence).

b) The address on the package was correct and the USPS correctly delivered it to your buyer.

You are spending a lot more time on this case then Judge Judy would. You delivered the package to the buyer. It is up to your buyer to get her package back if she gave it to her neighbor.

that story makes no sense at all

how did the customer even get the package if it was the wrong name and address.

this customer must have a loose screw or something

you can just tell her to use the MBG and prove it was wrong

I woud stop the back and forth with this buyer

please come back with any updates. this is a slam dunk for you to win as long as you have tracking that shows delivery.

I think you're being played. The buyer probably concocted this ridiculous story hoping that you'll fold and give them a refund.

" Customer said a package arrived with the wrong name and address, so she took it to her neighbors. "

That is the weirdest contradiction I have ever heard. Someone is getting the story wrong.

If you need to talk to eBay you MUST have the facts straight and in order, don't make it more confusing, write it down and tell eBay the facts BEFORE asking questions or accusing the buyer etc. (very important).

Facts:

1. I printed the label provided by eBay*

2. The USPS delivered the package on Aug/?/ to that zip code and the buyer admits she received the package at that address**

3. The Buyer said she took the package to her neighbors because it was addressed wrong.

4. Period the end of the facts.

Question:

How could the address be "wrong" if the USPS was able to deliver it to the correct address.

*Btw, the buyer entered that address.

** you are completely in the clear now, you did your job and the buyer confirmed it; now don't louse things up by talking to the buyer so that she changes her story .

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I will echo what others are saying. You shipped via ebay, and it was delivered. You are clear. I would resist the temptation to communicate with this buyer as it's most likely a scam. You mentioned you are new to selling, and scammers will know this and try to take advantage. It happened to me when I was new (this account is new, but I recently split my buying from my selling), and the honest attempt to be helpful is what scammers like this will prey on. If anything, just tell them that tracking shows it was delivered, and if there are any further issues they will need to speak with the post office.

I agree with @a_c_green that is not your package. She got a package addressed to her neighbor and now she thinks it is the one you sent.

What does your tracking show?

I agree. She has positive feedback as a  buyer, so I'm not sure why she decided to play this game. I appreciate all the support from this community. Thank you for your comment.
