Crazy “incorrect postage” message

I just got an Ebay message that the USPS is claiming there was a problem with my shipping label.  The USPS is claiming I sent a large book in a Priority Mail Envelope but only paid Media Mail Postage.  It’s nuts because 1. The book would never fit in an envelope.  2. I don’t use envelopes.  I only ship in boxes.  So bizarre!

Re: Crazy “incorrect postage” message

They image everything and they can go in and see those images. The weight one might be hard to argue but they should be able to see it was a plain box vs a PM envelope. Send in the dispute and it should be taken care of.

Sometimes the packages/envelopes are too close together and it catches the piece behind with the PM bar code on the packaging.

Re: Crazy “incorrect postage” message

Your sure you did not reuse an old priority mail package?   Even used that still have rules enforced on them.

Re: Crazy “incorrect postage” message

Did you use any priority packaging as interior packaging?

Media mail can be opened and any priority packing in the package would scoot that right up to priority rate.

If they found priority mail packaging inside, then it must travel priority mail.  They will probably bill you the difference.

@cjtreasuresandfinds

There should be a procedure to contest that charge.

The APV has been known to make mistakes in charges.

Seems that sometimes things piggy back in the system, and the wrong item is seen.

Contesting the charge results in a review of photos/scans.

Re: Crazy “incorrect postage” message

I put in a dispute.  I put in one about 6 months ago when they told me my package weighed more than it did but I never got a resolution on that one.  Maybe I will this time. Thanks for letting me rant!

Nope, just a plain brown box.

I didn’t use any priority packaging at all on it.  Just a plain brown box.

Re: Crazy “incorrect postage” message

If you were provided a phone number through which you could file a dispute, go ahead and make the call.

In July, I also received a similar message from USPS through my eBay account, and I called the phone number that was listed in the email.  The phone will actually connect with a REAL human being, who will open up an investigation on your behalf.

I won my case, and received a refund.

Good luck.

I did.  We’ll see what happens.  I guess I just needed to vent.  Thanks!
