Country Included In Global Shipping Program Is Not Showing Up As An Option?

I'm selling a fairly pricey item (camera) and I have the listing opted in to the Global Shipping Program. Somone from Malaysia is interested in bidding but they dont see Malaysia as an option for shipping, which is strange...I dont know what to tell them?

In the Global Shipping Program FAQ it list Malaysia as one of the supported countries, but sure enough, it just doesnt show that country as an option in the shipping tab on the listing...I'm baffled as to why?

If I manually add another option for Malaysia to the shipping options so this person can bid on it, will it still be considered under the Global Shipping Program? Or am I just on my own with having to ship it directly to them in Malaysia as opposed to just shipping it to the eBay center in Kentucky like I have before?

Any info on whats going on would be greatly appreciated!

Not applicable

Check your Buyer Requirements to see if you indicated you don't ship to  Malaysia.  Account tab> Site Preferences> Selling Preferences> Buyer preferences> countries you do not ship to.  Edit it if needed.

Also on the listing did you enter any countries you do not ship to?  You can do this even if they are included in the GSP.  If Malaysia is not on the listing, then you would ship without GSP.

I can't imagine that cameras are prohibited from shipping to malaysia so I have no other ideas.

Malaysia has an import restriction on any device that has communications capabilities ... since the camera has WiFi, it would need special permission to be imported.   UPS Detailed Import List for Malaysia

Three other thoughts:

  1. You want to be careful selling very expensive items to third world countries.  There is enough theft already on eBay, so you want to limit your exposure.
  2. In general, keep in mind that even a novice thief can easily steal an item on eBay because of the loophole in the Money Back Guarantee program.  There is nothing that even experienced sellers can do to protect themselves ... so, it is important that whatever you sell be below the radar of the thieves (you want them to target others ... not you).  That said, selling a $2,000 item on an account that looks like it has very little selling experience could be a prime target for thieves.
  3. Listing an item as "New (other)" requires that the item has not been used.  Your listing claims it is used a little.  Thus, a more accurate description is that it is "Used (pre-owned)" in excellent condition.  As it is currently listed, you are vulnerable to a Money Back Guarantee SNAD claim from a buyer.

As an FYI to others reading this thread:

While very likely not the case for OP, the other issue that happens with some items is that, when boxed, the item exceeds the maximum size limits for a particular country. I think the GSP in some cases has even tighter requirements than the shipping companies on their own.

For example:

For priority shipping from the US to Spain - there is a maximum weight of 44lbs, max length of 60", and a max length + girth of 108"

For priority shipping from the US to Australia - there is a max weight of 66lbs, max length of 42", and a max length + girth of 97"

I've seen countries with a max lengh + girth as small as 79".

I do my own international shipping and get messages from buyers occasionally about shipping rates and if I go look it up via eBay myself, and the country is not showing up, it is almost always a size/weight issue.

Price is another issue. The maximum amount of the sale varies. $2500 is the maximum transaction amount for any country.  Some countries are capped at $200. Then there are a couple amounts between $200 and $2500. So items can also be ineligible for the GSP if the amount of the transaction is over a certain amount

If Malaysia is not listed as a location on your listing, then you cannot ship it through the gsp. If you add it then you would have to add a shipping method and ship it directly to the buyer.

And I'm assuming thats much more risky, correct?

Yes, shipping an item internationally yourself is more risky than using the GSP.

I checked your listing for a camera body >$2,000, and Malaysia was not on the list of available countries for shipping. I checked a couple of your other listings (less expensive) and Malaysia was on the list. I don't know exactly what makes this item not eligible for shipping to Malaysia, there have been several excellent suggestions earlier, but I'm not sure which is the issue here. Here's a link to the help page about item eligibility for GSP.

https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/shipping/global-shipping-program.html#m17-2-tb4

Personally, if the GSP is not willing to ship an item to a particular region, then I would not take the risk either. They know what kind of items are being rejected at customs in some countries, and what might be at greater risk in which regions for whatever reason. Better than anyone else could hope to know at any given time.
