Confusion about Simple Delivery QR codes

Hi,

eBay told me that the QR code and label have been emailed to me, however I only received the label, not the QR code.

But, the confusion is: on the label at the top, there is a wide QR code-like shape, which is actually not a QR code. Then underneath that is a barcode and the address.

Now, my question is, is that shape at the top of the postage label the code I need to send off a parcel without printing the label, or have I just not received the QR code?

If this IS the "QR code", then this is further confused by eBay's help pages showing an actual QR code as an example, and not this wide elongated matrix that resembles a QR code.

Many thanks

Re: Confusion about Simple Delivery QR codes

I've never had a label emailed, but the thing at the top is definitely NOT the QR code you want. When printing a label it is both to the left of the address and just outside the labels bottom right border. Maybe it shows there in your email?

Re: Confusion about Simple Delivery QR codes

Try using the reprint option @caelastewar0 so you can download a copy of the QR code.

To reprint a label purchased through eBay (or download a copy of a QR code through the reprint function), go to this page, find the order and select Reprint from the Actions drop-down. The reprint option is available for 7 days.

There is no QR code option there. I searched for this issue and followed the same instructions before, but all I can ever get is a label, not a QR code.

Re: Confusion about Simple Delivery QR codes

No, the email contains no QR code. I've scoured it top to bottom, all that exists is a link to the label. All embedded images like logos loaded fine, there is no QR code. I received all other emails related to the selling process. It is not in my spam folder, either.

@caelastewar0, you're registered in the UK, so I presume  this is for a label you need to use in the UK, is that correct? Are you returning something?

All of the previous replies assumed that you were in the USA, and provided links and information relating to QR codes for USPS (United States Postal Service) labels, which won't work in the UK.

Here is information relating to using QR codes for labels on eBay UK:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/news/2023-june/royal-mail-qr-code

But, I don't know why you would need both ... as I understand it, you can choose whether to receive a label that you can print yourself, or a QR code that you take to Royal Mail or the courier company, and their clerk will scan the QR code and print a label for you.

I don't think  you need both, you choose one or the other.

Re: Confusion about Simple Delivery QR codes

The customer selected Evri, however none of those instructions match up with what I see.

There was no option to choose. Somebody bought the item, and quite simply on the postage page it said, and I paraphrase as I can't remember the exact wording, "we have sent a QR code and a label to your email".

No QR code was received, there is no option in interface to get one, and only a printable/downloadable label is there.

Now, the label, at the top, shows a code that resembles a QR code, but it is not a QR code. Beneath that, on the same label document, there is a barcode and the address. Hence my question about whether or not eBay are mislabelling this code as a QR code when in fact it is technically not a QR code.

Thanks!

Re: Confusion about Simple Delivery QR codes

OK, so you are the seller, and you're trying to ship the item to your buyer.

You don't need both. Forget about the QR code. The instructions for the QR code are not needed because you didn't get one. You were not supposed to get both, it is one or the other.

If you got a printable label, then print it and stick it onto your package, and give it to EVRi. I know that's a courier service in the UK, but as this is the eBay USA forum, I am not familiar with using them.

I think you are stressing too much over this QR code, but you don't need it. Just ship  your item with the printable label. Make sure you ship it within your handling time.

What is the item number? I looked at your profile, and it says you have only sold one item, but you received feedback for a sold item "more than a year ago".  I can't find any recent listings or recent sales from this account on eBay UK.

Re: Confusion about Simple Delivery QR codes

Hi,

Been a little busy the past few days! As I imagine you have been, too. I hope you've had a wonderful Christmas if you celebrate it.

Regarding the account in question, the items are being sold under a friend's account – I'm helping him out with a few things.

I don't feel I'm stressing over it, I just need it to produce what it says it's going to produce. We don't have a printer, and beyond going to a public library I have no access to one. This is why I selected the Simple Delivery option, because it advertises QR code generation functionality. Seeing as we have 300+ items listed, and will very soon have another 300, I'd prefer to opt for efficiency and use the QR-code functionality as advertised.

Regarding this being the USA version - I had no idea eBay differentiated the community based on the domain extension. It did not redirect me, and I just logged in from the search result I found on Google when looking into the issue and posted.

Regarding the appearance of stress, apologies if it appears I'm stressing over this! I'm a programmer by profession; I'm by nature very concrete, rational, and direct;  and I seek to follow all loose ends to attain a complete understanding of a problem, so I can think about the most effective way to solve it or work around it.

Anyway, to bring this to a close: I'm going to open a support ticket with eBay to get to the bottom off it, as I'd prefer to use QR-code functionality.

Thank you!

Re: Confusion about Simple Delivery QR codes

Well, in this case, it makes a big difference which eBay website you are on, because eBay USA doesn't have "Simple Delivery" available, and I had no idea that it was available in the UK either. It appears to be a service only available to private sellers in the UK, and is related to the very recent fee changes for private sellers on eBay UK.

Simple Delivery is different from the option to get a QR code for USPS delivery here in the USA. Here, you get one or the other, not both. But I see that for Simple Delivery it does say that you are supposed to get both a QR code and a printable label.

I would try going to the drop-off point, and show them the email you received from eBay. They should know which code to scan, or how to generate the label. If nothing else, you can send the eBay label to them and they should be able to print that for you.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/postage/simple-delivery

Or you can ask about this on the eBay UK community, and there should be responders there who have experience using Simple Delivery.

That's not accurate @lacemaker3 .

Depends which platform one is using between website, mobile website, and app. Under some situations sellers are given the option to generate both a QR code and a printable label all at once. Screenshot below for reference.

That said, my info is specific to the .com site and I'm not sure if the UK site offers the same dual-option.

@caelastewar0  would be better off asking their question on community.ebay.co.uk, but it should be very simple for them to adjust their label settings before purchasing their next label to make sure QR codes are selected.
