Confused about this "standard shipping rate" that a buyer is asking about

Good morning.  I received a message asking about one of my cards that I am selling here.  The card has a buy it now of only 6 dollars, it says:

will give you the $6 if can you use the new ebay standard shipping rate for this order? Ship cards $20, and under for .53 with tracking.

Is this an actual thing because it is almost to send something for 53 cents with tracking.  That I know of .  I also don't see an option when I create a listing for this "standard shipping rate" unless this is what the calculated by location is.   Feel like I am getting scammed here

It's a real thing. It's called eBay Standard Envelope (link).

This is a real thing.  An eBay thing.  It is not a USPS thing.  The tracking is only through eBay (when label is created), USPS does not scan nor track these envelopes.

Its a real thing and you are losing out on sales. I ship this way for all cards no greater than a 55 point holder. So no relic/material cards. Go to blowout website forums lots of sellers there with info on this

Muttly

I use these .53 envelopes to ship stamps and almost all of them are being scanned as delivered.

USPS has to be scanning these.

I just looked at 10 separate orders shipped on 10/22-23 and every single one was scanned as delivered.

Do the delivery scans show up on the USPS website?

Beats me.    I never look at the USPS website.      They show up in my sales record in eBay which is the only thing I'm concerned about.

If  a buyer claims non delivery,   The Tracking and confirmation is right there in the sales record,   The same as If I used USPS.

What am I missing?

How it works

1

List your item

Create the listing for your trading cards, coins and currency or postcards and stamps, and select eBay standard envelope under the shipping section.

2

Ship your item

Print your label from eBay Labels and attach it to your envelope then send via USPS. Tracking is automatically integrated.

3

Monitor your shipment

Track the progress of your shipment only through My eBay or Seller Hub. An acceptance scan is not required. The built-in tracking for this eBay delivery service is what we need to confirm your shipment.

If thinking about doing this, the way I understand it(I don't use it) you have to have that as an option in the listing.  Not something you choose after accepting an offer, or after the item sells.

Correct. You can create an eBay Standard Envelope shipping policy on your business policies page, then choose that shipping policy when you create listings which qualify for eBay Standard Envelope shipping.

Your statement:  "USPS has to be scanning these."

No,they don't.  I have seen one of these labels someone posted on here - there is no tracking barcode for USPS to scan.

The "delivery" scan is something of a mystery - eBay doesn't fully explain when/where/how it happens.

But it is not through USPS and not done at actual delivery.

If you read the FAQs at the bottom of the link several posters have posted already, eBay does a lot of dancing around the subject of scans, but ultimately does say this much:

Why doesn’t eBay standard envelope show up on my USPS scan form?

eBay standard envelope can be printed in single label printing or in bulk on eBay Labels, but will not be added to the USPS scan form. eBay standard envelope shipments do not require USPS to scan the shipment.

This is not the same as if you were using USPS tracking.  It's a crap-shoot for both buyer and seller - since it's apparently an eBay-generated event and not a true delivery scan then false positive deliveries are possible as well as lack of recorded delivery.

Not entirely correct. One can have an item listed with only first class parcel (and possibly others) for example for a postcard and if upon label creation the seller changes the type from package to letter, changes the size of the package to appropriate envelope dimensions (such as 1x4x7 inches), has an item below the cost limit (such as $20.00 for postcards), and the weight of the package does not exceed the allowable weight (such as 3 ounces for postcards) and has no more than the allowed number of items in the package (such as 3 for postcards) eBay labels will immediately offer you the eBay Standard Envelope" rate of either 53, 73 or 93 cents right on the screen. I've done this plenty.

There's much I don't know about this subject.     I admit that.

Here's what I do know.     Since the introduction of this Standard delivery has been available for stamps

I have sent several hundred orders that way.

I had one or 2 returned at the beginning by the USPS

I have NOT had any successful claims of INR using this system.

Spot checking several dozen orders they all (100% of them)   show,

Out for delivery just like a USPS label

Then,     Delivered with the date,   time,   and zip code where it was mailed.

Mystery is right.      Who's scanning them "Out for delivery"     and then "Delivered"     if not the USPS?

I forgot to point out that of course the listing has to use the correct category, for example postcards.
