Calculated shipping woes

So I started going (I know, two days too late) through my listings to make sure I don't put myself in the hole with the new shipping rates, and what I realized is that for USPS no matter what I do, my listing ends up showing store rate, and for FedEx, no matter what I do my listing ends up with discounted rate.  I ended up removing FedEx option - almost everything over 18" total length is now overpriced anyway, but its pathetic that eBay can't make it so that the customer can have a range of shipping options without someone being screwed in the process.

If you really want to show the online rate, you can do this in your Site Preferences under Shipping.  It's called something like "share carrier discounts."

Are you using Parcel Select?

No, parcel select does not have discounts, that much I know.

Ebay's shipping calculator for UPS has been broken forever. If you use the shipping estimator while listing an item, shipping a 2 lb package from 16816 to 27312 it will show $16.09 as the In-Store rate and $19.49 as the "discounted" ebay rate. Uhm... The discounted rate is $3 more??

If that's what they actually charged the buyer I could live with that. The problem is no matter what you select in your preferences, they actually charge the buyer $3-4 less than my true cost with daily rates and then add a 10% FVF on top. One of my competitors adds a $5 handling fee to his 1 lb packages just to recover his label cost.

Hello everyone, I wanted to let you know that we are aware of some recent issues with FedEx SmartPost shipments. Recently, pricing changes were introduced and necessary updates were not made in time on our end. We are working to resolve problems with our shipping calculator, search results, view item pages and checkout. The pricing seen by sellers when printing SmartPost labels is accurate, but may be more than what the buyer was charged.

Until this is resolved, we recommend that sellers utilize an alternative service. Also be aware that lightweight packages (those under 10lb by weight or dimension) are typically the only sizes where SmartPost provides significant savings over other shipping services.

We apologize for any trouble this may have caused and will provide updates as they become available!

Could you have someone look into the UPS rate issues that I mentioned?

Hi everyone, I have an update on this topic to share: we've implemented fixes to the way that FedEx SmartPost costs are displayed that should resolve the recent problem with buyers seeing a different price than what you see when you went to print labels. I apologize for the trouble this may have caused and recommend contacting Customer Service if you have any questions about the shipping discrepancies you may have run into while this was an issue.
