Calculated girth USPS

Please help, I just can't seem to comprehend this I guess 😄

Package 6 lbs (lamp shade)

Box 20" l x 20" w x 12" h

Am I doing this right? 20w + 12h (32) x 2 (64) plus 20"l = 84 ? And under 108" max? Or did I mess this all up?

Thanks for any help! Lori

Yes, you did that right.  The length-plus-girth of your package is

20 + (20 + 20) + (12 + 12) = 20 + 40 + 24 = 84

So you are well under the 108-inch maximum for Priority Mail.

USPS uses a "dimensional weight" for packages that are over 1 cubic foot. The formula is volume (in cubic inches) divided by 166. So the volume of your package is

20 x 20 x 12 = 4800 cubic inches

and the dimensional weight is 4800/166 = 28.91

So your package will ship at the 29-pound rate, even though its actual (scale-based) weight is far less.

One pointer for the OP.

With those numbers, it is usually more economical to ship with FedEx or UPS, particularly if it is going to Zones 5-9.

I have been reading posts regarding the new lower fedex rates on ebay, I will definitely look into this. I am still deciding if I should list this as shipping/possible return shipping could be too high.

I use fedex mostly on other platforms, my only issue is ebay buyers tend to want things faster.
