Calculated Shipping Collected Amount - Too Low

I just sold an item via best offer with calculated shipping.  The weight and dimensions were not changed and when I started to print label, the cost was $45 versus $38 collected by ebay.  The ebay rep told me that the shipping amount is only an estimate and try to ship some other way than USPS!!  Never, ever had this happen before in 20 years.  Awaiting call back from supervisor.

The shipping calculator for USPS postage is 99.99% accurate. We can probably help if you provide specific details, including package weight and dimensions, service used (e.g., Priority Mail?), both ZIP Codes, and both exact prices.

Did you send the buyer an invoice? This locks in the shipping cost even if the buyer changes his address during the payment process.

Are you sure that the ZIP Code for item location in the listing is the same as the "Shipping from" ZIP Code on the label preparation form?  That can be different from the ZIP Code of the return address.

$38.18 would be the postage cost to ship 10 pounds to Zone 8 whereas $45.13 is the cost to ship 12 pounds. That sort of error could happen if the package dimensions weren't entered accurately, so that the actual postage cost incurred the dreaded "dimensional weight" surcharge.
