Buying from Japan - Export customs

Hello,

I have purchased something from Japan (around $1600 usd) and It is currenlty held at japanese customs.

I understand I will have to pay export tax etc and that is fine, not a problem.

 

My question is, is do the Japanese customs send out the payment request to me, or do I need to contact them?

In Europe when this arrives it is normal for the customs to contact you.

My first time Buying from Japan, so some clarity would be helpfull.

   You haven't mentioned what that something is. Possibly that something is restricted in the US?

   More information would be helpful. I know that some things that are perfectly legal to sell/trade in Japan aren't in the U.S.

Generally speaking, it's your local customs office in Netherlands, or local delivery courier, that will contact you about fees owed - not Japan customs.
