Buyers overcharged for calculated USPS Ground Advantage shipping

I sold an item in which I specified calculated shipping for USPS Ground Advantage.  The order details shows that the buyer was charged more than what the shipping label cost.  This happens for all of my items since the switch to Ground Advantage.  Before, when I used Parcel Select, the buyer was charged the same as the cost of the shipping label.  I don't want to charge more than the actual shipping cost.  Is anyone else experiencing this?

Parcel Select was a discounted online rate; the retail equivalent was called Retail Ground. Both services were formerly known as Parcel Post.

Now since July 9, those services once again have the same name.

The shipping calculator in eBay listings defaults to show the retail price, so your buyers are being charged the retail price for Ground Advantage.  If you want them to pay the actual online rate, you can just change your site preferences for shipping, to share the online discount. Go to the section for "Offer discounts to buyers" here:

https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

Many sellers leave the shipping calculator set to retail, so that the online discount goes into their pocket to pay for expenses such as boxes, tape, printer ink, and fees.

IMO just leave it alone. Buyer agreed to those shipping fees when they paid. Ebay charges seller fees on shipping, and boxes + tape + padding isnt free, and your time isn't free either. Keep the extra $3-4 to use for shipping packaging/your time

I know this post will repeat a lot of what nobody's-perfect already said, but there is additional info in here about how to apply the changes so I'm posting it anyway (and yes, it's pre-written since several posters have been asking about this @krause_collection 😞

If you previously offered Parcel Select then you were charging buyers actual cost of postage.

USPS did something very strange when they split off the old Parcel Post into the same service with different names for retail and commercial - Retail Ground and Parcel Select.

Now that USPS has normalized it, Ground Advantage is like Priority and other services where there's a retail rate and a commercial rate for the same service under the same name.

The setting to offer buyers discounted rates can be found on your shipping preferences page under the carrier specific discounts setting: https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

When you offer buyers carrier specific discounts it will apply to all USPS services, not just Ground Adv.

Since eBay charges a fee on total cost buyer pays (item + ship + tax), by charging commercial rates you are losing money on every single package. If you want to make up for that you can add a handling fee or increase your item costs - or simply charge retail rates for a built in cushion instead of passing on the discounts.

When you apply the change to offer discounts you may not see it reflected on your live listings because of this text on the help page, "changes you make only apply to new or edited listings where a shipping cost applies."

To apply the carrier discounts, first change the setting on your shipping preferences page and save. Then pull all your listings into the bulk editor and submit changes. Even though you're not making any actual changes to the listings, you're submitting a revision through the bulk edit tool that will force listings to reindex and the shipping discount setting to take effect.

I didn't mean to put in a sad face emoji. Annoyingly happens when I put a : after a ) and you don't see the emoji until after you publish the post.

Unfortunately, you are mistaken in what the ACTUAL shipping cost is. eBay will take 13.25% of that $14.30 leaving you with only $12.40. Your ACTUAL shipping cost is $10.61 PLUS the $1.89 FVF that eBay scoops up.  If you only charge your buyer the $10.67 you are LOSING money on the shipping. And then, apparently overlooked by most human eyes, there are the additional costs of the packaging materials along with your time and effort. There is more to the cost of shipping than just the postage.

OK, so it's a feature, not a bug (you never know with eBay).  I'm going to leave it set to retail.  Thanks all!
