Buyer hasn't picked up from post office

As the title says, buyer wasn't available to accept the item as it was signature confirmed for a graphics card that was sold. Item shipped from ny to CA. It now rests at post office waiting to be picked up. I sent a message or two and am sending a final message being completely polite as far as to the post office location where it is currently to help avoid confusion and provided address and phone number. I wont contact the borrower again? The item is a no return item and i covered the cost of shipping at 19 and some change.

If the buyer never picks it up, do I have the post office deliver it and just leave it at the door if they would even do that? I am confused how to go about this. It is a used rx 480 graphics card and I only have $50 in shipping insurance on the item as thats all she would let me choose at the place. I hope that shipping didn't break the item either. I need help I am confused and concerned. Will I be screwed over?

Do not ask for proof. Just tell them to return the item.

OP, did the CS that you talked to have an Asian or Indian accent?

CS have been known to lie and say anything to get the caller (seller) off the phone.  You seem to have gotten one that is a little more honest than most, might be one in the US.  But there still are hints that they are spreading it thick.

The best way to not get scammed is to not list the item at all.  The second best way is for the item to not get delivered to the buyer.

Again, what does the buyers feedbck and feedback left for others look like?

So when the resolution center told me that if someone makes that claim that they can ask them to furnish proof, no matter what, I will have to accept the return because they can lie about the item and basically I will be scammed no matter what?

YES!!!

But most of the time, ebay never, ever asks the buyer to furnish proof of what they are claiming.  ebay believes the buyer no matter what.  A high percentage of the time, a seller has to lose and then fight back on appeal - and even then, most of the time they lose.

I have not won a case in a long time, I usually tell the buyer to return for refund which is a draw technically - but a loss in ship costs for me OR I can get the buyer to back off.  I can get them to back off because I do not list high risk items and I don't do anything to boost my listing in search results, my buyers want my item, they didn't impulsively buy it and since I do not sell items on ebay that scammers would want, I get very few actual scams.   But I do get a lot of attempts, and I know that if push came to shove, I would lose any dispute against me by a dedicated scammer.

I am on the phone now and the woman is trying to inform me that the chance of me being scammed is nil. She admitted that whatever the buyer says if they say that the item is not described automatically closes the case and the buyer wins. She goes on further to say that I can open an appeal. so i tell her all the scnearios and the main thing is that i didnt video tape me putting the item into the box and shipping the item and paying for the item at once. Since i didnt do that, my evidence for shipping the item at this point will be based on here say. In this sense, the buyer will win no matter what if they make that claim and can easily send back a different item they cklaimed they received and i would be out the card and the money plus shipping costs etc.

When i bring up the different scenarios, she resorts back to they have processes and that they are a business who handles this all the time, basically logical fallacies, well im trying to get her to understand that im asking very specifically about the potential to be scammed and shes giving me the run around and isnt answering it directly. the women became rude, obscenely rude, she then said shes gonna connect me to sellers for more info. i asked her what seller department will do for me since this isnt about selling but about the appeal and scamming process. she gets angry and puts me on hold. then comes back and says she will transfer me to the appeals department and says ill transfer you now thank you have a nice day...essentially rushing me off the phone since shes upset. I get that, but im very intelligent. I see through that stuff. So a guy answers in the department. says to wait but i could return it to be sure but i dont have the money to return it so idk what to do haha. i feel like im gonna get screwed. i have a bad hunch something bad is gonna happen idk why. sucks being a poor college student trying to sell this to make rent haoppen makes me think that im gonna get scammed or if it does get shipped back and the guy never picks it up, the item is gonna be damaged because i have terrible luck. im very nervous essentially. basically two people admitted that there is a chance that if the seller lied they could scam you entirely. even the employees hinted its a possibility but then go on to say thats likely not gonna happen. but tbh, it could certainly happen and that chance alone worries me. idk what to do at this point.

😞 this worries me so much man.

im at a loss of words here.

can the post office open the mail to verify that the item is in the box for a 100% confirmation to prevent the scam at this point?? idk what to do i want to prevent the chance of being scammed. and even if i dont getr scammed and he never picks it up, there is still a chance that ny to ca and ca to ny back, that a gpu could get damaged in that long haul. so im worried immensely. i mean even the appeals guy said wait a few days and i asked him if he was in my shoes what would he do he said i would probably have it shipped back to me and hope that the card is working well when it gets back as well. and i dont have any money to return it either. im trying to sell the card to pay for rent as im a college student. my semester ends at the end of this month in a week or two trying to find a job and pay for rent and i swear i have bad luck. i know im gonna get screwed over just like i did years ago withy the only negative feedback i have. the dude scammed me then but that was 10 bucks big deal. this is my gpu for my only computer and my only real chance at paying rent essentially. so im really worried.

Nobody can tell you the actual chances of being scammed.  We only know that it's greater than zero, but that's true for any transaction.   Nobody knows for sure -- not eBay staff, not retrose or the other posters here.

Taking videos would not help. No, the staff at the buyer's PO are not allowed to open the package.

You need to just wait to see what happens.  Most likely the buyer will fail to pick up the package and  you'll get your item back.

"A package with Signature Confirmation must have a signature from the addressee (recipient)."

False.

Anyone can sign for the package.
