Buyer had wrong address, package returned, now what?

I sold an item, and shipped it out.  It's a $30 item, shipping was $18 more from Michigan to Oregon. Buyer has no feedback other than mine. 2 days later, the buyer sent a message saying that Ebay hadn't changed his address, and didn't know what to do.

I just got it back, the post office sticker says "Return to sender.. Address unknown, unable to forward"

Now what happens? If I have to cancel the order, I eat the shipping I paid? If he still wants it, I assume he needs to change his address thru Paypal and Ebay first, then can I invoice him for the new shipping charge? I haven't had this situation before, so not sure how to handle this.  Thanks! Earl

You can refund the item price only. You can cancel the transaction and refund in full and take the FVF credit. If the buyer wants it shipped, they just need to specify the right address when they repay.

I sent the buyer a message to let me know when he changed his address, and I would send an invoice for the new shipping. He just replied that it has now been changed, and thank you for working with me.

I went to the transaction in Paypal, and can only find the old address that was wrong. Same in Ebay, all I can find is the old address. It is in Oregon, he said the new one is in Washington. But he didn't give it, just said it was done. I'm not sure now if it is, and I can't find it, or he hasn't really changed it anywhere.

 If I ask him thru messages and he gives it, am I covered sending it there? Or do I need it changed thru Paypal first? What a pain for a fairly small-priced item, lol!

No problem! Just send him the invoice 🙂

his address will be on the payment for reshipping. Any changes he makes tonhis account will not reflect on ebays side or the original PayPal transaction.
