It's for a package that's been sitting on "in transit, arriving late" for awhile now. I told the buyer this long ago (many messages ago). He still chooses to message me every day with that same question "Will it be arriving today?" At first I told him I have no idea as I see exactly what he sees in online tracking. He acknowledges, then asks that same question again the next day, haha. At this point I just have a one word message reply, "No".
This guy wore down my pleasantries. haha.

I will look into my crystal ball and have an answer.
what I really feel like telling buyers is that you wont be checking tracking next month so why check it now.
tracking tends to lose the importance after delivery.............thank heavens I have such patient buyers.
its hard to win with a buyer that thinks we know where packages are at. as far as tracking goes it sort of tells you where the package was.......not where its at now.
keep on selling

Go to the tracking history page for his package on USPS.com and sign him up for email alerts. Maybe sign up yourself as well; you can plug in up to three names and email addresses to be notified whenever there is an update to the tracking history. You can use the buyer's disguised eBay email address for his notifications, which you will find in the Order Details page for the sold item.
Contrary to popular belief, this has absolutely no effect on the movement of the package; it does not magically get it "un-stuck" or anything like that, but what it does do is set a flag on its tracking record in the USPS database, giving you an immediate notification of any update to the record within minutes of its occurrence.

Give him points for persistence. No?
How about... I called your post office and they unfortunately said no, not today.
He wants someone to care. Lol

Yes they do get yippy over late parcels don't they. There is such a log jam of packages to be delivered, it could be weeks. They do seem to be getting delivered. Just that it takes forever now.

I already did that when I wrote my first reply to the buyer. I've been doing this for buyer since pre-Covid too.

"Ask again later" hahaha. I guess he totally is following that to heart.

I feel your pain. I have a buyer who writes me everyday. Today she wrote early and said, "I still haven't received my package today BUT the mailman hasn't come yet."
Eh? Post hasn't come yet, is this a pre complaint to be followed by a serious melt down since today is the 24th?
They have anxiety. I now have their anxiety too 🙂

I am experiencing the same problem both as a seller, and as a buyer. As a seller, I have opened several cases with USPS for missing package/packages. USPS does respond, and I hope this stirs the pot. If the response from USPS is closed due to no information than I reopen until I get some response that indicates someone is searching for the package/packages. I have had one instance in my own city (Memphis) where they misplaced the package, and forgot to scan it in the system. After I beat the war drums again low and behold it moved and got delivered after 1 MONTH! I have had much better service with UPS and Fedex. USPS is generally less dependable where I live.

Ha ha ha. Yea, I don't get why your buyer is even messaging you this. By common sense, how can a package be delivered if the mail carrier (the person who delivers it) hasn't come by yet?

All righty. He is no doubt going to continue this at least until something happens in the tracking. I think he's also hoping to wear you down into refunding before that happens. Don't go there. Sending a copy-and-paste reply each time will at least show that you're not ignoring him (tempting though that may be). Your phrasing sounds fine:
"Sorry, there has been no update to the tracking. You will be notified by USPS as soon as that happens. Thank you for your continued patience."

Waited over a month for a package from OR (I'm in MA). Seller and I both agreed it must be lost, so he refunded me and went off to deal with his local P.O. Package arrived at my house the following Monday. I refused delivery and let him know.
It arrived at his house Thursday. 3 days later.
Go figure.
