Buyer Return Deadline Extended??

The eBay policy says a buyer has to ship an approved return within 5 business days (usually shows up on return as a week).  However, my most recent return was given 14 days. She is not an international buyer.  eBay, did you sneakily change yet another policy and not tell us?

Historically, doesn't eBay first test new policies overseas, then deploy them here?

The seller has 8 days from the request to respond to the buyer with a solution. If the seller does not respond with a solution, the buyer can ask us to step in and help. The buyer must ship the item back to the seller within 14 days from when the buyer submits the return request

Nothing has changed.  It can take as long as 30 days for a return to close unless you call eBay and get them to manually close it.

I had one last year, buyer didn't ship it back in the time given.

I called to have the return closed.

Instead of closing the return, buyer was given another 10 days to return, which they never did.

The day after the return was suppose to be shipped, call eBay and open a case. They will find it in your favor because the buyer never returned the item. If you didn't do that the buyer can still return the item and if they do, you are required to refund the buyer.

So did you call eBay to close the case out before the buyer shipped the item, if not then you lost out on this. The seller has to call to get eBay to open a case because the buyer didn't return the item.

Something HAS changed.  My prior returns noted that "eBay has asked the buyer to ship the item by (insert date)". The date has been 7 days from return approval date.  

My latest return gave the buyer FOURTEEN DAYS to ship the item.

That is indeed a change, regardless of whether or not eBay has formally changed the TOS on the website.

Yes, I understand that eBay has that 5-day deadline as part of the return ... what I was trying to say is that eBay has never been stringent on that 5-day deadline.  That is, eBay will not close the return after 5-days UNLESS the seller calls in and is proactive (even then, eBay may give the buyer another 5 days).

That 5-days is more of a suggestion than a deadline, which is why the text says that eBay "may" close it after 5 days.
