What do you do when the package you shipped was attempted to be delivered and is now at the post office? As a new seller I do not get paid until it has been delivered. How long does the customer have to pick it up, what happens if they do not pick it up in time?

Why did you ship an item if you haven't been paid yet? I never ship anything until I receive all the funds. But, on a different subject. I recently had an item returned to me because the buyer neglected to change his address i in ebay. I have always had a policy where if I receive an unauthorized return (Refused/RTS, unable to forward, incomplete address) I inform the buyer that the item was returned and they have 10 calendar days to remit payment to reship the item (even if the item originally was shipped free of charge to buyer) and up to a $3.00 reshipping fee ( because paypal will charge a transaction fee) to cover the costs of reshipping the item. After the 10th calendar day I send an email stating the item is now considered abandoned and will not be sent to the buyer unless they want to buy it again if I relist it. In my 20+ years of selling, I have had 2 items returned and "abandoned" and one recent transaction where the buyer gladly paid the reship fees. I also had an item returned, marked Return to Sender/Refused but they opened it and sent it back and USPS confiscated it for insuffiecient return postage. I never "reclaim" those, I let the USPS dispose of them.

Seems like you'd message the seller and tell them about it.
Also, to the other responder: I think the OP has been paid, but, as with most new sellers, his funds will be held for 30 days.

-------------------------------------
When a buyer pays and eBay shows "awaiting shipping" while the payment is processing a seller must ship within their stated handling time. The seller can not sit there waiting for the payment to be process and funds released. Some sellers can if they have a long enough handling time. Some new/infrequent sellers may not get their funds for up to 30 days.

Buyer should have received a paper notice of attempted delivery.
In 5 days if not delivered/picked up a second notice should be left.
Day 15 the item should be returned to the sender if not delivered or picked up.
