Arranging Shipping for Local Pick-up Only Item

I want to purchase a mirror that's listed as Local Pick-up Only, but includes an option for the buyer to arrange for pick-up.

The seller lives in another state so I'm not able to pick up the mirror. Which shipping companies could I use to pack and ship the mirror to me?

Would I pay for this item through PayPal?

"Local Pick-up Only" means just that.

The "option for the buyer to arrange for pick-up" means you deal with the seller for the place and time.

And Local Pickups are essentially cash deals; no PayPal.

Anything else you try to do will be outside of eBay and that's a no-no.

My thoughts:

1. I hope you have a friend who lives near the seller and could do a favor for you, pick it up, pack it and ship it for you.  Otherwise this could going to be VERY expensive.
2. If the seller is nice, maybe he would be willing to take the mirror to a FedEx Office location (or similar pack-n-ship service).  If so call the nearest one and see if you could pay for the packing/shipping over the phone with a credit card.   This is not cheap.
3. If the seller doesn't want to do this, there are websites that provide pick-up, pack, and ship services ... search on Google ... one such site is shipsmart.com. 
4. You cannot pay for this shipping service through eBay.

the rerason the seller listed it that way? because shipping a mirror would be tough, expensive and risky...

some things are just a pass....you may have to pass...

There are freight companies that will go to pick-up, prepare the item for shipping and/or pickup/delivery so if you google it you may be able to find one local enough to your home state that will do it, however, it may be expensive.  I had tried once and the item was three (3) times less than the pickup and delivery to my home.

You could call a friend or relative in the seller's area to pick up the item and deliver it to you. Or you could make a road trip yourself. Or you can make arrangements with a motor freight company in either city. Both UPS and FedEx offer freight service in addition to their usual package delivery.

Depending on the size and weight of the mirror, you may find a UPS Store or other PMB in the seller's city that will pick up, package and ship the mirror to you. You would have to pay the shipper separately. Years ago, when I was associated with an antiques mall, we contracted with a local Mail Boxes Etc. store to pick up furniture (armoire, grandfather clock, desk, etc.) and transport it to the airport as air cargo or to a freight forwarder. With enough advance notice, the merchandise could even be on the same flight as the buyer.

Keep in mind that you have to pay the seller for the item price -- probably via Paypal -- and let him/her know when to expect pick-up by your chosen carrier. The seller should in no way need to transport the mirror or provide a box or other protective packaging. Some motor transport companies do not serve residential addresses.
