Kneejerk reaction... can you box it and put the box inside the padded envelope? Unboxed... I don't think so.

Simple enough to figure out. Put a piece of garbage Tupperware similar to what you want to sell in a padded envelope and jump up and down on it. Did it get damaged?
The box inside a padded mailer would be okay only if the box could survive without the envelope.

98 percent of what I ship and receive safely in padded envelopes day in and day out would not survive that treatment.
Keeping things under 1 pound is really important with cheap stuff.
However the advice overwhelmingly says not to ship that way, so I will not.
Thanks everyone.

Best to say:
No,

This one is very simple. You answer it yourself. You buy an expensive , hard to find Tupperware item. Would you like the seller to ship it in a padded envelop?

Unless the box is made of metal or thick wood, it would be a extremely rare if anything I've sold in over 20 years could survive me jumping up and down on it if it was in a cardboard box. That's not the way to decide on a shipping method.
If you're shipping rare, expensive tupperware pieces (which you are not), then ship with great care and double box them. Consider your risk for loss and make your choice.
I've seen Priority Mail boxes of items sent to me that looked like a truck had hit them somewhere along the way. One box was dropped off at my door that was so wet it was falling apart as I picked it up. I can't imagine how it even made to my door in that shape.
I do remember that the mail person drove away quickly after that drop-off of the wet box. I was home and got to the door only to see a glimpse of the back-end of the vehicle driving away. I recall thinking 'I wonder why they were in such a hurry?'
I found out.

I would recommend using a box.
