When you're shipping out ebay orders, do you ever cheat on the weight?  The weight is just a fraction of a hair over 6 ounces, but you use 6 ounces?

I don't fudge the weight because I wouldn't want the package possibly arriving postage due which will cause you to have an unhappy buyer.  Not worth having problems with a buyer for pocket change. If anything I'll play with the packaging to see if I can reduce the weight.

NOPE !

If it is really close and it is safe for the item to do so I will trim the inside flaps but NO I will NOT cheat on postage.

I would have spit my coffee on my keyboard if you said Yes Smiley Surprised
It would be pretty bad if your post office nabbed you for underpayment .

Indeed it would.

More than that though I feel bad nabbing a second sample at BJ's, I think it would weigh on my mind if I cheated on postage.

Never ever, I am like others I am a flap cutter if need be
I would cringe if my buyer got a postage due , which I have & I wasn't happy .
And my last one  was 2 bottles of liquid mailed in a envelope with no padding so it ripped & had postage due !
I always play it safe if it is so close on my scale that adding the label may tip it over to the next ounce I go up.

You would be surprised at the companies that routinely cheat on postage. Rockauto and Beneyou (who took over Jamberry) are two of the worst. The CEO of Beneyou even phoned my customer and chewed her out (she is a rep) because she blogged about all the postage due packages. It caused quite a ruckus when other reps posted about their own Postage Due woes. Note that he DID NOT correct the problem and actually blamed the USPS rep that set up the postage system at the warehouse. Sorry but it is not the systems fault when the shipping department chooses .10 cu/ft for every package no matter the size.

Nope.  If it’s that close I cut part of the inner flap off till the fraction of weight is under.  Unless of course there is a range where they all cost the same. Then I just use the highest weight for the same cost and don’t worry about it.

I always round up.  However, twice in the last 6 months, I've been charged by USPS via eBay shipping for underpaying for postage.

In both cases, I'd actually overstated the weight and the post office scans showed this.  I appealed both charges.

I won the first appeal but the second, larger one, I lost.

The larger $ was ridiculous.  I send a pearl bracelet, in bubble wrap, in a bubble mailer.  Measured weight at my scale was 2.9  oz but I set the label weight as 4 ounces and the post office scanned it as 2.8 ounces.  Somewhere along its journey it was scanned at 12 ounces and I got charged the difference in postage and lost the appeal despite having the acceptance scan from the PO and an image of what the item was.  Lost anyway and had to eat the extra fee.  That didn't mean I couldn't put food on my table, but it was as annoying as heck since I'm super careful never ever to understate the weight.

If I can lose even when I'm right, the last thing I want to do is try to slide in under the mark because I figure I'm close to 100% certain to lose then.

these days,it is you the sender who gets notice from eBAY /Paypal for postage due,not the buyer.

Unfortunately no, Postage Due deliveries do still occur. I had one myself just last week. Doofus seller sent me a Priority Mail padded envelope with a First Class Package label on it. Cost me $3 and change for delivery.

Fortunately the seller coughed up my refund right away after I sent a photo showing the PO's Postage Due stamp and price.
