The ad title said it was what I needed, but I also used Ebay's included "Parts Checker", which said the parking brake cable did indeed fit my car. However, underneath that was some text that read, "Some of the information was provided by XXXXX" (name of seller not given, out of kindness on my part).
The part arrived and the box did have the brand and part number listed in the ad, but it was incorrect, it was NOT for my car. I contacted the seller, who said "Too Bad, bub. Pay to ship it to us and we'll whack you for a 20% restocking fee, as per the small print in our ad."
Naturally, I replied that they shouldn't penalize me for THEIR false advertising, but they wouldn't budge.
I returned the item, clicking the choice "Doesn't match description", thinking that Ebay's satisfaction guarantee would apply.
The seller credited me at 80%.
I tried to ask Ebay to step in and help, but the item no longer showed in my "Purchase History", so I couldn't use the automated system to put in my cry for help.
I phoned Ebay, and the first person took my info, then escaleted to a different person, who said I had failed to protect my rights by not phoning Ebay to notify them of the situation BEFORE making the return.
That's new, isn't it?
Shame on you, Ebay!

No. You got an idiot CS that was just trying to get you off the phone. Call back. Tell them the item is not as described and the seller only credited you 80% and how do you proceed?
be calm and give just the facts. If eBay again refuses to help you, call PayPal if that's the way you paid

If you can't get an eBay rep with a higher IQ, try paypal, then your credit card if you funded that way. You should be able to get the balance of your payment refunded.

Excellent advice, THANKS!

You should not have had to send the item back on your dime. On a SNAD claim the seller should send you a return label. By sending the item back on your dime the seller was able to charge you a restock fee.
you should be able to get the balance.

You are covered under eBay's money back guarantee. go to the Resolution Center and pick I received an item that does not match the seller's description. Follow the directions to return the item and/or get your money back. The seller will have to pay return shipping. Also eBay no longer allows restocking fees. Oh and don't accept a replacement, refund only.
There is a link to the Resolution Center on the bottom of every page on EBay. Make sure once you open a case not to close it for ANY reason until you have your refund. Also keep up with the case and have eBay step in when the option becomes available. Do NOT let the case time out.

Thanks for your concern, K.kat, but the "resolution center" no longer works the way it used to! It brings me to a "search page" of unhelpful links!
SHAME ON YOU, EBAY!

Did you buy the correct one for the side of the car that was needed?
The seller lists both the right rear and left rear cable and you bought the right rear cable.
If you bought the cable for the wrong side of the car that is not the sellers fault it is yours.
What part number was on the box that you received?

RU jokin'? lol
Yes, I need the right-side cable. They sent the part number shown in the ad, a Raybestos BC94139, but it turns out that it might only fit the all-wheel-drive Camry (or it may not, who knows?).
I'll remind you that I also used Ebay's "parts checker" to confirm I was getting what I needed, but I ignored the warning text that popped up which said something like, "Some of the information given was provided by seller XXXXX (name of seller deleted, since I'm nice)".

I think I read that restocking fees are no longer allowed. Or is that not in effect yet? If true you should point that out to CS.

@bearswatching That policy applies to sales on and after 5/1 so anything purchased prior to that, restocking fees can be charged

Hate to tell this ,but Ebay's "Part Checker" is Only good if it has the correct information provided to it .

Yep. That is all added by the seller. The seller has to reasearch and figure this out for themselves. Many parts may not fit all vehicles even if they are the same year/make/model. Cars with different options can have different parts, even when they are "the same". Some times sellers screw up...and sometimes buyers don't bother to read discriptions.
