What is to stop a buyer from returning not the item but anything as long as they return something with a tracking number if Ebay looks only at the tracking number as proof of the return? Example: Sold a laptop, buyer returns a phone book in a priority mail mailing box. The buyer says they retuned a laptop and Ebay says the tracking shows they did so they issue a refund to the buyer. Example: partial return. Sold a Roku player. The buyer returns only the remote and keeps the player. The buyer says they returned the Roku (all of it) Ebay says the tracking shows they did so they issue a refund to the buyer.
These things have happened and Ebay will always side with the buyer. At least that is what I believe.

IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.. most buyer are really honest and all goes fine... but it has always been tough on expensive items or say phones etc...but almost anything can be scammed... you report it and if it happens often ..they start looking into it...and expensive stuff will catch there eye...but not a whole lot ...to answer the question...so gotta be smart and learn ways ..ex: phones...make sure to photo the seriel number on the listing...then what comes back may show different...then you have a case.....
