Just a simple question. I had a buyer protection case judged in my favor and need to return the item, but I'm slightly unclear on the date given to me.
The return case says:
Instructions
1. Ship the item to the seller by July 11
2. Print an eBay label or get your own and add tracking details within 7 days of shipping the item. We'll send a refund when tracking shows the item is delivered.
So, what's unclear to me is.. Do I just need to have the item post-marked as initial shipped date by or before July 11'th, or do I have to actually send it earlier and have it physically delivered by the 11'th? Which would mean sending it 3-5 days before the 11'th.
If someone could please clarify this.. it would be appreciated.

eBay uses Asian programmers. Their understanding of the word "by" is a little different. At the moment the date flips to July 11 at eBay HQ, you'll be late.
Tracking on the label you were provided has to show movement before July 11.
The same applies if you buy your own label, plus this: You'd be too late if you try to add that tracking 7 days later.
Further, the seller will have zero days to issue a refund, not the usual 6 business days after the return is delivered.

Hi, you have to ship it by July 11th. Meaning it needs to in the carrier's hands with an acceptance scan BY July 11th. I would ship it no later than July 10th . It does not need to be delivered by July 11th.

To my understanding, you have until July 11'th to ship the item back. I would send it back asap to get your refund quicker.

Have it scanned by the 11th.
You should not get a refund until the seller receives it back. So the sooner you ship it back, the sooner you get your refund.
Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

It's a ebay buyer protection case like I stated in the original post, so the refund is 100% automatic. Once it's scanned delivered, I get credited back automatically.
I think I understand now, so thank you everyone.

No. The refund isn't 100% automatic. There are rules you have to follow. If you don't ship the item BEFORE July 11th, the case may automatically close against you with no refund. You are required to return the item within the timeframe eBay gave you. Failure to do so will cost you your refund. Also once the item is delivered to the seller, the seller has 6 business days to inspect the item and issue the refund. So like I said, ship the item back no later than July 10th. Upload the tracking number immediately (if you use an eBay label you don't need to upload the tracking number).

Unless something has changed since the last time I had to do this about a month ago... as soon as the tracking # says delivered, ebay staff credit us the full refund. The sellers don't have a choice in the matter and the refund part is automatic.
They may have changed it though.

I'm thinking it might depend on if the seller accepted the return or if it had to be escalated and decided by eBay.

You don't know that. The refund isn't always automatic and you know darn well that I'm right about that.

I don't think and that's only because of the number of posts here from buyers wanting to know how to contact eBay because their item was delivered back to the seller seller days earlier and they still haven't gotten their refund. Many of them mention that they had to ask eBay to step in because the seller wouldn't accept the return.
