I bought a guitar and a case and when it arrived, the guitar was fine but the case was severely damaged. If I was to do a return, how does that work? I don't want to send the guitar, which is fine back, I just want a different case, and I doubt the seller has another one. (They haven't answered the message with pictures of the damage I sent them yet) Now what do I do?

As @lamber9347 mentioned, you have 30 days after arrival to make decision. Give the seller a day or so to respond, if not, then submit a ITEM NOT AS DESCRIBED. You decide if you want a full refund and return everything, or a partial refund. Seeing you bought this mostly for the case, this should give you an idea.

You should contact shipper and notify on the damaged case, and see if he can offer a partial refund. Typically in the case, you can file a item not as described for a partial refund.
How was the listing described as, was the guitar the only thing mentioned, or was the case noted on it as well?

First off give the seller time. They may be busy with simply life. You have 30 days to resolve so you'll be fine. Once you hear back from seller explain that you are very happy with the guitar and only want compensation for the damaged case, or a different case. Seller should be able to work with you and most likely will offer you a partial refund to make up for the case. You have time, just keep all communication civil and stay positive that this will work out in your favor. Best of luck to you....

The guitar is pictured inside the case, it was a package deal and like I said, the guitar arrived fine but the case got hammered, it doesn't close properly, doesn't sit right on the feet of the case and the ironic thing is, I only bought it for the case, so I could put another guitar I already have in it but that isn't happening now with the damage. I messaged the seller with a question about the item before I won the bid and they blew it off. I messaged them again today after I received the damaged item and haven't heard from them at 1 am from a message sent this afternoon. In the event they don't answer me again, can I still file a claim or do I have to do a chargeback on my credit card?

That is not my experience with this seller, as they have already ignored a message from me about the item once. With what they have already shown me, I'm not saying they will, but I have have no reason to believe they won't do the same. This is why they say you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and why I had asked the previous responder to this post if I can still file a claim or if I'd have to do a chargeback if this person blows me off...again.

If you only bought it for the case, and the case is damaged, why are you looking for a "partial return"? Open a "not as described" case in the Resolution Center at the bottom of the page, and get the full refund, including shipping.

Yeah, not sure what OP is trying to accomplish. Starting to look sketchy to this chair. BWDIK?
Bottom line is either try to work something out with the seller (as @lamber9347 noted) OR return the whole thing.
And since no one has stated it so far, I'll add.... while eBay says they want buyers and sellers to work things out, sellers are not required to answer any eMail or be stand up. So if one has given a seller 24-hrs during a BUSINESS DAY and no reply, then the seller is not stand up. So now the buyer needs to do what? Send more emails? Call eBay CS? Nope! Go to Resolution Center and file a case for "arrived damaged". At this point the buyer should focus on what they can do - get their money back.

I want to clarify this good advice..... (being retentive this AM) by "shipper" I assume the poster means the SELLER. Do not contact the shipping company as that is the seller's responsibility. A shipping company should have policies where they only reimburse the "shipper of record", the seller, and not the recipient. Getting in the middle of the seller's dealings with a shipping company is not cool.
See? Granular reply this AM. Guess I need coffee? sigh

You don't know what I'm trying to accomplish? As I have said, what, like three times now (perhaps English is not your first language) I only need to return the case. The guitar is fine. Whether or not I wanted it is not germane, and if I want to keep it, why shouldn't I? I paid for it. I could easily flip that and keep the case, which is what I wanted in the first place, BUT IT IS DAMAGED. Not the entire order, just the case is damaged. Is that becoming more clear now? I DON'T NEED TO RETURN THE GUITAR, JUST THE CASE. Why would I return everything if only part of it is damaged. Conversely, why should I expect a full refund if I only need to return PART of the order? That is the whole purpose of asking about a partial refund. Do you understand now? I would only return the damaged PART of the order. Hence PARTIAL RETURN. Those words are similar but not exactly the same. If that isn't possible to do, that would have been the information that would be useful, and I frankly don't care if you think that is "Sketchy." I have plenty of pictures to document the damage. Maybe in the future, if you want to know "What OP is trying to accomplish" you could ask THEM instead of an unrelated commenter, but like you almost said but couldn't quite be bothered typing it out (lazy right?) "But what do I know?" What I know is I DON"T know what the return policies and procedures are, never having had to return anything before, that's why I'm here. People saying things like why didn't you just do "A" or "B", don't exactly help if you don't know the correlation of "A" and "B" or the procedure. If I try to help someone that isn't sure about how to proceed, I do it in a way that actually helps them, not by giving them snippets of information in a way that implies they already know what they are doing.

Which is fine and well if you think they will respond, and I have reason to think they may not, and why I was also looking for how to proceed if they do not.

There is no partial return here. If the seller wants to work something out with you like a partial refund, then they can, but if the seller doesn't respond and you have to escalate and open a case with eBay, you will have to return everything for a full refund.

How to proceed:
Contact seller and wait a few days. If they don't respond, request a return for item being damaged and wait for that response. If they still don't respond, then escalate the case with eBay. You will have to return everything and once tracking shows it's delivered, you will get a full refund.

Please keep in mind that the seller is not obligated to give you a partial refund or allow you to keep part of the listing and return the rest. While you can certainly request it, it is fully within their right to say "No, just return the whole thing for a full refund."
While most sellers would presumably honor the request for a partial return/refund, they are not required to.

Wow, highly inappropriate comment to make. People here are simply trying to offer you advice. Take it or leave it but absolutely no reason to become disrespectful....you are angry at the seller not at us....
