PACKAGE IS BEING HELD FOR A FUTURE DELIVERY DATE. / DELIVERY WILL BE RESCHEDULED

The seller sent me the wrong item so I put a return label that was given to me by the seller on the package and I shipped the package back to New York via UPS. The item arrived there yesterday and when I tracked the item it says, " PACKAGE IS BEING HELD FOR A FUTURE DELIVERY DATE. / DELIVERY WILL BE RESCHEDULED".  What does it mean exacly?  I've never had this happen before. Should I be patient and give it a few days or is there anything I can even do at all?

The recipient may have a vacation hold on mail. Or maybe there was no safe place to leave the package without risk of theft.

Nothing for you to be concerned about. You'll get your refund eventually.
