zero stock behaviour

I have several products which have many variants.   When the stock level for a variant is set to zero, in some cases the variant  is deleted from the variant list on eBay.   But in other cases the quantity is set to zero and the variant is NOT deleted from the variant list.

There must a rule about when a zero stock level causes the variant to be deleted - or not.

We do not want the items deleted as the stock is replenished regularly and it's a pain in the neck to have to set the variant up again.  Is this behaviour controllable by the seller?
