working 9 to 5?

Wondering if most people here have a set schedule for the day and week and sucessfully stick to it?

I"ve been informed that due to my condition I really need to set boundaries with work and stick to a schedule. But for me work has always been activities that fill up my day when I'm not doing things like eating meals or running errands. I'm going to try to adhere to a 9 to 5 or 6 schedule which will be tough because I've always worked before and after that window.  No more ending auctions later than 4:30 I think. Or doing the mail at 7pm.

I ship items out every other day. I love today because the post office is closed as well as holidays.

I go to the gym every week so many days...that is number one of what I must be doing every week in the morning.

I am the lucky one here...no more rain or bad weather until maybe November in San Francisco. We are in our dry season. If I am going to the grocery store I will mail items off on the way. Lucky me I am only like 6 blocks from the post office and grocery stores and I can ride my motorcycle to them. It's a perfect life I guess.

I sometimes ship items off at the post office on the way walking to the gym.

I would never sign up for next day shipping...life is too precious here.

Night time(5PM) is movie time ...no working on eBay ever after 5PM. I need to get my mind off of eBay business plus it's the cocktail hour.

I'm in PA too and we burn a woodstove so I like to have 4-6 Cord of wood cut and split each year for the cold months.  That type of work is also exercise which is good and I like to have most of it done by this time of the year ... but with all the rain we've had I have had to get out and do that work when as the weather dictated.

Sure sounds like hard vigorous work to me! My gardening isn't that arduous but with my bad knees I can only really spend an hour. I want to get into the groove of getting out there most mornings to stay on top of things. Until this year the place was pretty much a weed patch because of neglect.  Reminds me, time to  mow.....

I run auctions on Sunday afternoons (might go into the evening a bit for me, I'm on the East Coast).

I mail Mondays every week, and then I do other mailings pending on my work schedule. I committed to buyers to mail twice a week. Realistically 3 or 4 days is more likely. Depends what days I'm working in the office, the shipper is on my way home from work. I don't do mailings on Saturday or Sunday.

     Yea about 99% of the time. Most buyers have paid by Sunday evening so packing is done for a Monday morning post office run. On occasion I will have a late payer and have to make another run sometime before Thursday when the non-payment orders automatically cancel. But that's a rarity and no big deal since the post office is so close. 

     The main reason I use the auction format almost exclusively is so I am not tied to eBay 7 days a week.

I would recast "9 to 5" as "specific work schedule that you can stick to."

As others mentioned they end their Auctions on Sundays, that's a proven good day for them to end ... or any weekend day which pushes shipping to Monday.  Back in 2016 eBay posted this flash page about ending auctions on Sunday (yep, I took a screen shot and kept it).  Fun Fact no 19 ... not sure where the whole Fun Fact list is published LOL?!?

Yes, Sunday is the gold standard. I spent all day writing auctions to launch a nd am currently going through everything to collect sales, delete, re-list with B.O. or move to the store. It's a lot.  But next Sunday is NO listing auctions due to my trip! WHAT will I do with myself??

That's why "work from home" is so productive.

The worker can set their own schedule.

You are a morning person. I don't wake up until 10am.

Before retirement, I was up, dressed, breakfasted and at work by nine.

But I was still effectively asleep.

I was only productive from about 10:30 to about 2pm. Then I needed a nap.

Now I do most of my listing just after lunch, with another burst around midnight.

Packaging happens before lunch, shipping after lunch .The PO is next door to a good coffee shop and one of the best pastry shops in Victoria BC.

Yes, and working from home is more commonplace since Covid.  Actually, some companies have a lower operating cost if a good % of their employees work from home.  

The pastry shop sounds absolutely wonderful LOL!

I think Victoria sounds wonderful. The town I live in is kind of a dump. But I guess it's MY dump. It has a lovely garden in it [mine!].

We mandate our people to come in one or two days a week (pending on which department you are in, if you are call center you get off a bit easier because we understand it's noisy in the office for taking calls). My group scans incoming Statement of Claims, etc, and have had to be in office 50% of the time even during COVID (we were essential workers who couldn't work from home). We don't like all the call center noise. When I did call center in 2021 I was super happy to be in my own house without noise. Productivity is monitored by how long you are on calls and available for calls, so you can't really stray from your desk. We had 40 calls in the queue all day long, so I was busy.
