what in the heck is going on?

What in the heck has happened to ebay? seriously, It used to be a great selling platform. We did great on here and loved it for 18 years.   It was fun to shop and sell. Then in 2014 with  cassini, things took a nose dive. We waited three years and literally gave up. Moved to another CRAFT site. Which was great for awhile.  Now it seems a ceo from ebay has been hired there, and things have declined . Such as views. The site has also become clutterd up, and miserable.    We have been sold out to overseas sellers. Shame shame, How pathetic! any thoughts?

Re: what in the heck is going on?

Quick Listing Form, Advanced Listing Form you got when you clicked Sell Your Item, the New Quick Listing Form and the New Advanced Listing Form. The Sell Your Item form is the older version of Advanced Listing Form and was supposed to be retired "soon".

Ok. Let me try to ge this straight.

The old Quick Listing form was the one that was around for the last 5 years or more (never used it).

The Advanced listing form was the 2 page one that was around seemingly forever. I got pushed off that one 4-6 months ago I think.

The new Quick listing form is the one with all the gotchas for new sellers (auto BO, auto GTC, etc).

The new Advanced Listing form is the huge empty whitespace 1 page monstrosity I'm stuck with now (as shown in image in previous post).

So it sounds like I'm on the latest and greatest.

Which makes do.you.read.me's comment "New selling form vs old selling form" more puzzling. Both the old and new advanced forms have the ability to uncheck BO and/or to add auto accept/decline.

Is the issue that the discussion here is about the new Quick listing form?

That is why I'm still using Turbo Lister and I will until he takes his last breath.

I always thought there were just 2 listing forms ... the Quick and Advanced and I have no idea how people even know what form they are on which makes it really hard to try to help people when they come here with problems because of all these different listing forms.

Totally agree.  When everyone is complaining about the SYI forms not working, pics not posting, constant buffering, ect, TL gets them listed just fine.

Yeah, sorry, had a brain fart

....I had read other's threads saying they could not get rid of forced Best Offer, and were advised to use the Advanced selling tool.  Sellers claimed that worked for them, to get back control of that aspect, and qlso to avoid GTC, which is also forced in the  newest quick listing tool.

Re: what in the heck is going on?

Ok, thanks for that clarification.

So it looks like the new Advanced Listing Form gives full control over BO and GTC, while the new Quick Listing Form does not.

Why anyone would use the quick form is beyond me (although I've never used or seen it and don't know if it has any real advantages), but I assume it's used because it's the default and new sellers don't know any better.

Re: what in the heck is going on?

snip:

As far as vintage, we old folk are downsizing.  And the younger generation is just not interested in collecting things like we did.

How true. Todays generation does not have the interest we did 20-30 years ago in....shhet music, antiques, glass, crystal, dolls....and the list goes on and on. Major antique shows and shops have taken a beating.

Like others who have collected over the years, I'm bailing out now while my health is good, I have the time, and the selling venue still works. Yes, most of my listings are for vacuum tubes, but soon the coins, paper, crystal, and other #@$! I've collected is headed out the door. Even I don't have an intrerest in it any more.

Your third paragraph hit the nail on the head. Perfect.

Listing prices and sold prices are often two different things. Many buyers beleives if they ask alot for an item, it must be worth it. Sold prices tell the whole story.

Except real sold prices only show up in search and if it's a BO listing, you have to find the price range it sold for. Once you go into the listing, it shows sold for the original price, no mention of BO.

So again, which prices are they selling to worthlesspoint or terrapeak?

Me too, although I've also been using Wonderlister, although it's not as esy as TL and also needs a sql client running. And their preview only previews the description, not the entire listing.

It has a ways to go before it's as smooth as TL - to me, anyway.

If I had to use the ebay listing forms, I wouldn't list anything on here.

Re: what in the heck is going on?

I use TL too, but only for backups and to recover the occasional listing that rolled off after 60/90 days.

It runs like #^%@ here. Slow as sin (reminds me of the old days running Autocad or ProDesign on an 8088 processor with 640kb ram - had to think carefully about refreshing a screen as it often took 30-60 minutes.)

TL starts up slower than any other of the 1000 programs on this machine (older Quadcore 2.83GHz/4Gb), can't find the database half the time, is clunky at simple things like relisting (too many steps), etc.

But it works for what I need it to do - give me access to an older listing here or there eBay won't save.

As much as I complain about the new Advanced listing form (mostly mumbling under my breath,  mostly), 99% of my disdain is the appearance and the fact that I don't like change.

I've fixed some of the appearance issues here with CSS, am pondering going deeper and Greasemonkeying some javascript to fix other annoyances, but in actuality, it really does work well for me.

(eBay: "don't let that go to your heads or think I'm switching camps to the Cheerleader Corps - you just got something mostly right")

The picture loader is way better than the old one - I just drag and drop a pile of already edited photos form a Windows Explorer window onto it and go on to the description to work while they load.

Picture loader did go out to lunch for a bit recently (when a lot of others also saw the glitch), and it does spaz out once in a while when dragging loaded images around to arrange, but still works well enough. I don't use any of the editing features and can't comment on those since I edit photos on my machine using my tools (and to have a vebatim copy of the uploaded images for future uploads and archival/CYA purposes)

We'll see what happens if TL is totally discontinued since I refuse to "do the cloud" in general or pay for that functionality. May have to try rolling my own kludge for low volume listing backup/archiving.

(am experimenting with File Exchange to see what it can do for me)

Re: what in the heck is going on?

I much, much prefer the new listing form to the old one.  The old one used to give me the spinning blue circle of doom issue on a regular basis, but ever since I switched to the new one, I haven't had that problem once.  Whatever they did with it, it worked.

Yes, but Turbo Lister is no longer available to those of us who never had used it and/or are new sellers.

I thought ebay was founded by PEZ collectors back in the day.

Re: what in the heck is going on?

FYI they have a setting just underneath the best offer box, you can set your lowball price.

Re: what in the heck is going on?

You're correct on that one!I saw in another thread here, someone's millie daughter wouldn;t have her student debt paid off until the was 63....

And most of this group still live at home or have to room up as rents are crazy high. And that is for a 500 ft BOX.

If they can't wear it, type on it ,or eat it they ain't buyin it.

8 years ago I was still middleclass, and bought all the time, no more.I'm downsizing, moving, my son will hit tradeschool soon( he'll actually find a job) and I'm going through my parents, grandparents, and my collections.I'll just keep slapping them up on ebay til they go.I'll have an "estate sale" for whatever is left , save for usable vintage, and 2 other small collections.

I still like ebay, and when I do shop it;s mostly 2nd hand small sellers. And I love selling. So ebay, you'll have to boot me.
