i need to cancel an order in kind of a screwy situation. the buyer wants the item sent to a different address, which i won't do. i asked if he wants me to cancel, but i'm still waiting for his reply. on the cancel drop down there are two options for reason to cancel that are appropriate, but i don't know which to use, so i want to know if there is a difference in the fees i will lose depending on his response. is it better fee-wise to cancel over address or buyer request? if there is no difference, i want to go ahead and cancel due to address issues, but i don't want to get stuck with higher fees. does it matter which option i end up picking? any help is appreciated...thanks.

I've canceled a sale under both and have had my fees refunded.

I'm thinking those are for the out of stock cancellations, but I can't remember as I haven't had one of those in a while.

you can select any reason, doesn't much matter, either "problem with shipping address" or "Buyer requested cancel" - neither will give you mark on your matrix, the fee you pay for canceled transaction if your in Managed Payments is $0.30 (the transaction fee is non-refundable), that's it.

great, thanks for the help--much appreciated!!!

You are in Managed Payments.
If you cancel using issue with buyers address the only
thing you won't get back is the $0.30 fee.
I'm not sure if it happens all the time but eBay seems
to grab the $0.30 from your bank account even if you
have available pending funds when you do this.

no problem - that's assuming your in Managed Payments - don't know what the deal is with sellers still using Paypal. As an extra, you can have them reorder the item, instruct them to change their shipping address - you can reclaim that $0.30 loss for trans fee buy changing your selling price by $0.30 (actually a bit more, figure the FVF to the $0.30 loss on last transaction). But that's up to you, I just swallow it and smile - seems to be the new routine.

no, they will take from your pending or processing funds, if have neither, they will take it from your bank on file.

(no, they will take from your pending or processing funds, if have neither, they will take it from your bank on file.)
I can only speak from my own personal experience.
Every time I have (canceled) an order I have had more than enough money
to refund the buyer from the pending funds sitting there on eBay. So far
every time I have done so they have refunded the buyer from the pending
funds and taken the $0.30 from the bank account.

they have never taken it from my bank, always take from pending or processing funds, been in MP since July.

it looks like these answers are from 2021 but now in 2024, every time I have had to cancel an order I have gotten a charge of .40 cents.

You should be refunded the $0.40 fixed per-item fee as well if you cancel for reasons out of your control, but you won't be if you cancel for Out of Stock or Damaged.
