I just started a thread about wether or not to allow buyers to purchase while in vacation mode. Why do you not want them to buy if you're going to be away longer? I've always left mine open but am trying to decide if I am going to do that again.
Well, tomorrow morning I'll be going away and won't be back until June 9/10. If I allow purchases somebody who buys on Friday afternoon is going to hear nothing but crickets for at least 8 or 9 days. IF they see the note on the listing, IF they understand the note, even IF they remember the note a week later it's still a long time. If they don't see the note or don't understand it or remember they are likely to get pretty antsy when they get no acknowledgement of their payment, no notification it's been shipped and no response to messages they are not likely to be very happy.
Sure I could leave them available, extend my handling time to 10 days and that might meet my eBay obligations but my primary concern is making my BUYERS happy.
Then of course there is the potential that I might be delayed returning or some other situation that wouldn't allow me to make either eBay or the buyer happy. Bottom line is that if I'm not prepared to lose out on a few sales while I'm away I simply shouldn't go away.
I did get a listing promo this week that is for Auctions only, I'm going to load up a bunch of things as Auctions that will end next Friday, barring the unforeseen I'll be able to ship those the following Monday just as I would if I had not been away.

I am going away too and I think I will close the store to no sales as well.
In the past I have left it open with the Vacation message and I tried to personally message every buyer that I was away and to see if they wanted to cancel, but I end up working too much and this time, I'm taking the week off (except for having to process returns).
Have a great trip!
