I want to buy two different items from a seller and would like to add them to my cart but it says they don't combine shipping - but they do and they asked me how to add the shopping cart feature to those listings. From what i gatherhed, they need to remove the immediate payment required part of their listing, but beyond that, is there a check box in the listing for 'add shopping cart' and if so, where is it. any help would be greatly appreciated!

No, there is nothing a seller needs to do other than delete immediate payment required.
It is on the buyer's end to use the shopping cart.

Put all the items in the cart but DONT PAY. Click the button asking for an invoice. The seller then adjusts the invoice for combined shipping (or free even) then you respond to the invoice and pay the amount on there.

@hamlet80 I believe the seller's settings in the Combined Shipping section also influence how multiple items get purchased regardless of immediate payment setting or not. Mine are all immediate payment too but I have had customers purchase 3 & 4 items NOT at the exact same time and they all come on one order ... must be when they finsih filling their cart and paying for the items. After that I will often get a request for an updated invoice or order total, so I pack things, readjust the weight and shipping cost then send it off to the Buyer for payment.
There is a setting that states the following if a Seller has it selected:
Buyers can send one combined payment for all items purchased from me within 3 days.

If the seller has immediate payment on their listings I believe the request total from seller is greyed out. Plus it sounds like the buyer has already tried that and they were told that seller doesn't combine shipping. I've heard of that happening often but I'm not sure why or if it is always for the same reason.
I wonder if the seller does have that he allows combined shipping set up in his site preferences / shipping preferences

The Seller needs to go to their Account Settings> Site Preferences>Shipping Preferences>Offer combined payments and shipping - Click on the Edit Button and Confirm that he/she wants to offer combined shipping(they wont need to set any combined shipping rules if they don't want to). That will allow their buyers to use the cart and cart options such as requesting a combined invoice.

eBay makes shopping difficult. Sometimes I can add things to a cart and ask for a total and other times not. People that buy from me sometimes can and sometimes can't. I just used my eBay quarterly coupon on the eBay shipping site and could not add anything else to the order, no cart, theirs does not even work. It should be obvious and easy. Let's stop torturing people and make it easy for them to spend their money.

I would ALWAYS want to combine shipping - the fewer packages I have to schlep to the PO the better.
