send offer heartache

I sold a book for less than my asking price and the listing doens't say it was from an offer. I called CS which showed me I have "automatic" offer on 176 listings and tough luck, I have to manually change all of them. I have gone through a bunch and the auto offer is pretty much OK but she said it's market-based so who knows what they will sell for. Also, how this did happen? I don't understand how to prevent this in the future.

@keziak

If you ever send an offer eBay checkmarks the box to automatically send offers and will continue to do so until you go in and remove that checkmark.

I tried to remove it by clicking on the link that says "on" and it isn't changing.

I checked a lot and the auto offer appears to be what I manually offered someone before. But I never sent an offer to anyone for the book that just sold.  The amount is not a kind of price I would ever use. So I don't know what to think.

@keziak

As @buyselljack2016 said, when you SEND an offer now farther down on this form that you have to scroll to see, eBay checks the box, i.e. SELECTS YES to have eBay send offers automatically on your behalf.  It will include your subsequent listings as well EVEN IF YOU NEVER SEND ANOTHER OFFER ON YOUR OWN.  By not "unchecking" that preference the first time, you have essentially given eBay permission to "take over" and do it for you automatically.   And yes, it is my understanding you cannot remove it in bulk and will have to remove it from each listing automatically.  I do think there is a way to determine which of your listings are affected, but I do not remember.  I will tag for you the member that does,  for more help for you.

@wastingtime101   posted some screenshots the other day that you can review to start getting rid of this if you so choose:

This happened because you've been sending offers without looking at the settings. Next time an offer is sent, de-select the "send automated offers" setting. That will prevent automated offers on future listings.

On current listings, the deed is done so you have to manually turn off automated offers one-by-one. There is no bulk option.

1. Go to Seller Hub Active listings and navigate to: All Filters > Offers > Offers Sending Automatically

The filter will only appear if there are listings with that setting enabled. If unsure, just click the direct link above and if you see zero listings, that means you don't have auto-send offers enabled on any listings right now.

2. Under the Actions drop down to the left of the listing, select Review All Offers

3. Select Change Offer Settings.

4. Under Send offers to buyers, click the > symbol next to Automatically Send Offers.

5. Toggle off the blue Automatically send offers slider at the top. Click the blue Done button at the bottom.

6. You will see status is changed to off. Click the blue Update Offer Settings button.

That's not how it works. eBay will not automatically send offers on any listing. They will only do it when:

- The seller sends a seller initiated offer on that specific listing and

- The send automated offers setting is turned on when the seller sends the offer

The OP did send an offer on the listing in question at some point in time. That's the only way this happens.

Also, you really don't need to scroll to see the automated offers setting @ittybitnot . It's right there in your face as shown in the screenshot on my last post and it's high above the "send" button the seller has to click to send the offer. Nothing is hidden or requires searching/scrolling to find it.

The only way this happens is when you previously sent an offer on that item and had automated offers enabled.

Is listing 226648308653 is the one in question?

Listed for $18.00 and sold for a seller initiated offer of $15.12 which is equal to 16% off.

My guess, if that's the correct listing, is the first time you sent an offer you thought you were sending it for $16.00 and not 16% off. You had the wrong setting selected under discount type (percentage off instead of offer amount).

Go here:

https://www.ebay.com/bo/seller/showOffers/226648308653?showSummary=true

Look under "completed" and you'll see previously sent offers.

@wastingtime101  very well thought out & correct answers, but I want to note one thing.  Some of us DO have to scroll to see those options.  It is likely a function of screen size.   I have even worked with eBay developers once when I was seeing a weird glitch that they wanted to see.  They thought it was b/c I used a slightly unusual screen size.  Nothing crazy & frankly they SHOULD have supported it.  So, yeah, I DO have to scroll to see at least the 2nd one & I swear sometimes the first one.

eta: I concur that at one point she DID send an offer & I concur that those were never just automatically turned on by eBay.  You had to initiate by doing SIO's.

I understand the point about listings I previously made offers for. I saw some of them on my list of 176 (!) books. I also saw a lot of books I recently listed and never left offers. INcluding the book that just sold which started all this.

The CS reps were all over the place. The second guy insisted he did not see the 176 and to change browser which did nothing.

The third woman tried that line but I shut  her down. Finally I noticed that on each listing on the list I had to scroll up, out of initial sight, to do the second thing to remove the auto offer.

I looked at the most recent books and found on the SYI page where I supposedly said to leave auto offers which I would never do. I have no idea how that happened but now I will be alert.

I went through my most expensive books out of the 176 and removed the auto option. Leaves a lot to do which is frustrating.

Sorry, but no. You are right about the book. I listed it yesterday for $18, never sent any offer. It sold for $15.12 today.

This problem seems to be due on some listings to the SYI including auto-offer being checked off though I would never do that.  Then when I listed more it kept using it. I am baffled.

Sorry, no, I never sent an offer, but somehow the auto feature got turned on when I listed. The list of 150ish has a lot of books I just listed. I don't recall even noticing it was an option on the SYI to begin with.

@keziak

Out of curiosity are you by chance using an old listing and then using "sell similar".

I believe that this happened the way that you explained it as I have seen some other reports from sellers who know what they are doing and how to list, and some of them have reported the same result as you.
