I personally cannot distinguish the difference between black pepper plants (Piper nigrum) and long pepper plants (Piper longum). I do know it's harder to find long pepper for sale in the U.S.  I got mine from my local Indian grocery store, but if one is not blessed to have the wide variety of ethnic grocery stores in their town, an online source might be quite welcome.

The biggest difference between long pepper and regular is that is really tough to get long pepper in a pepper grinder 🤔 .  During my month of travels in Sri Lanka, I never saw long pepper in the markets.

I forgot to mention vetiver.  Sri Lanka is a big producer of vetiver essential oil.
